Head Gasket Woes
89 Mustang GT. 306 with 9:1 compression, Edelbrock Heads, 274 HP Cam, Rollers, 255LPH pump, 42lb injectors, Procharger P1 SC, 11 lbs boost.
SCT Chip tuned at 435 hp to wheels. I keep blowing head gaskets. Air escaping into cooling system overpressurizing and tripping 16lb cap pushing all water overbaord into overflow and then from overflow onto street. Should I go with Cast heads and get rid of aluminum? Any advice would help... Thanks! |

Head studs and multi layer steel (mls) gaskets like cometics. If you are untuned, I would get one done asap! The aluminum heads are not your issue.

the heads/block COULD be an issue. I would have them checked out while you have the motor apart.
but +1 to head studs, and better gaskets

I run 11psi with aluminum heads and still have the factory head gaskets. You are probably detonating under load or your heads/block are not straight? I'd figure out why before getting stronger gaskets, I'd rather lose a gasket then something else.
