5.0 with minor problems

Hello, I have a 87 GT with minor performance issues and I have a few questions.

1. In 5th gear I am running 2000 RPMS at 100 mph is this normal with stock gears?

2. My car seems to lose it's gusto past gearing past 3000 RPM, is this do a weakness in the stock ignition? It actuall would hold on until 3500 on 93 octane.

3. I bought my car used and been using 87 Octane fuel. exactly what does the pinging (detonation) sound like?

4. Will I FEEL a difference with Long Tubes compared to shorties?

5. I have never heard anyone talk much about equal length headers are they not good?

6. Is it hard to remove the H-Pipe yourself?

7. When I make a sharp left turn the right tire seems to have a wobble effect. Is that the tie rod, bushing, ...etc? I looked unfer the care and saw nothing that looked worn or broken.

8. What type of gear oil do you add to an stock 87 rear end and how.

9. How do you add trans fluid to a stock 87 manual trans?

Thanks for all your help!!

1.) In 5th gear on my car at 2000 RPM's I am going, approx. 70mph. My car is geared 3.08 at the rear.

2.) Could be that your timing isn't set right.

6.) depends if it is rusted. Mine was rusted. Let is soak in some wd40 or equivalent material and try getting it off then.

3) it sounds like your motor is ratteling and its not a very good sound to hear, its called piston slap and its loud

4) there will be a slight difference, long tubes are louder as well

8) Royal purple should do fine

rearend

theres a plug on the front side of the diff. drivers side, use a 3/8 in. ratchet with short extension to take the plug out. I used a cheap manual pump to fill the rearend with lube.

1) Does not sound right. I have 2.73 rear end in one of my Mustangs and I get 2000 rpm at 80mph in 5th. You either have something less then 2.73 (I doubt it) or your speedometer and/or tach is not accurate.

2) Your ignition may be having problems above 3000 but that is not a weakness in a working stock ignition.

9) T5 transmissions use Mercon ATF or you can use Dexron II or III ATF which is equivelent.

1) you gotta have the wrong speedo gear in the trans
2)check your timing and ignition parts
3)pinging sounds like rocks bouncing around in your engine
4)Longtubes are the best type of header and you should feel the diff
5)equal lengths bends can actually hurt HP when you reach a certain level of HP.
6)its pretty easy to remove an h pipe an X pipe is actually better if you plan on replacing your H
7)lift the front wheels and grab the wheel at 9 & 3oclock and check the
looseness of the tie rods
8)80 90W gear oil through a filler plug on the DS of diff
9)dex 3 ATF drain it out of drainplug on PS of trans To fill it remove the shifter and fill it through there with the filler plug out so not to overfill
