Detroit Locker Q.

I bought a 94 mustang gt, and was told it has a detroit locker rear end. Are there many different types of detroit lockers?, or just one? How could I tell what size rear end it is? any guesses?

there are different kinds for different rear ends... I have a detroit locker and they're awesome but expensive.

it's a posi-unit, that's true (locks) on straighline, but releases (slips) on turns. Detroit locker is a brand

its just a higher grade posi unit, compared to the stock posi which doesn't lock all that great, so its great for street/strip.

You will see once you start racing at the track with slicks. The stock trac-loc uses a series of clutches to make both wheels spin. With slicks the clutches heat up and dont grip for shit and during your burnout only one wheel will spin. Tony if you are building a motor then put in a locker and 31 spline axles. I have a Power-Trax locker with Moser 31 spline axles.. trust me if you are puttin down 300hp or more and will be running slicks put them in before you break something... The Power-Trax unit is nice because you dont have to mess with your gears to install it.. One thing I noticed is when installing the big pin that the axles ends needed to be grinded down a bit so the pin would fit. Grind a little at a time then check.
