alternator


i put a 100 amp one wire alternator w/ an internal voltage regulator from summit on my 89 GT. does anyone know the proper way to hook this up? also i am only getting 12.5v out of it at 800 rpm idle, i have march underdrive pulleys on it. do i need to put my stock pulleys back on? since i am running an msd ignition and coil?? thanks

I was told by another buddy who had that prob was to get an external regulator and his was fine after that, and I'm running a 190amp alternator and have a spare 130amp for sale on ebay right now

even though you have a 100amp alt. it will only charge 12.5 at idle, give it some gas and see if jumps up to about 14 to 14.5. if it does then you're fine, if not then you do have problems. an alternator only puts out certian amounts of power at idle. for example a 130 amp will only put out about 60amps at idle.

Most single wire alternators need to be excited. Once you rev the car it will start charging. 12.5 volts at idle is good, mine doesn't put out anything until 2500 rpm.
