Possibly a purchase 90GT!!!

Ok I went to look at this 90 gt today and it does have all the parts listed in the ad. Does have oil coming from rear of engine and has some oil on the passenger side underneath....could be just from driving maybe??? Big deal or no? Car was painted white prev cuz the black paints isnt the greatest prob maaco.

One main question I got is with the poly engine mounts and tranny mount and a B303 cam should the engine shake or should it remain pretty still in idle. I just dont want to get this and it be something like a bent rod or something like that. How could I tell if anything internal is wrong? Fuel pressure from the reg he put on said 40psi while running.

Let me know what u all think if this is a good buy.

Give the guy with the 92 $3500 and have yourself a rare unmolested fox. IMO

well they said they are firm on the 4200, any suggestions on the 90? The guy had the reciepts on the parts purchased from summit from him and the prev owner. Also there was a wierd thing on top of the radiator with wires cant remember what he said it was for.

The engine should'nt buck. I don't think a b cam is that aggresive.

Double check everything! Just because he has reciepts doesn't mean that stuff is still on the car. I know guys that have been burned by that.

i looked at the car and i saw trick flow engraged on the alum head, seen the ignition, intake,lt's, BBK fuel reg and gauge. Looked in the valve covers and it was clean, seen gold rockers . As far as it bucking the idle sounds fine the engine just moves quite a bit. Anything that could be major? Doesnt smoke or anything out the back smells clean.

another question.....near the e-brake he said that this one wire was for the tune from the prev owner. It was a wire with a red little chip on the end pretty small thing prob the size a dime. Never seen anything like that before.

Who knows, thats why I like "unmolested" fox's.

If it idle's fine and sounds good. If you looked it over 10 times and like it...buy it up.

I would rather try to jew the other guy down a little and take the 92. but thats me.

Well I looked some stuff up and seen that a harmonic balancer could cause the engine to act that way. He said it was the cam and the poly bushing he had and it does that. I personally dont think so. Kinda wondering if from the vibrations it caused the leak possible on the rear seal and also maybe something internal.

yeah, I'd grab the 92 and do what you want with it. At least you are not going to have to figure out someone else's crap and hope they built it right. If you do it yourself then you KNOW it was done right and it will last without giving you more problems and frustration.

Fixing other peoples mistakes gets old REAL QUICK!

rear main seal leaking is as common as black hooker.. seriouly though it's very common which is why when you do a clutch job they recommend you change the rear main seal each time because while you have the drive shaft, trans, clutch/pressure plate, fly wheel out you might as well.

Bad harmonics from a balancer that's on it's way out or is bad can and will cause the front main seal (behind the crank pulley and harmonic balancer) to leak as well as the rear main seal.

With the car idling.. stair at the balancer and see if it looks like it's wobbling at all. If so it's probably time to replace it... stocker is $70 to $80 and a nice aftermarket one go from $250 up.

I would start the car up with the hood open.. stall the guy a little bit while it warms up and gets to operational temp and see if the car runs hot.. see if it smokes at all from the oil leakage and while it's good and warm pull the oil fill cap off the valve cover and put your hand over it... if you feel lots of force then you have blow by or if puffs of smoke come out of the filler tub.

If that shits good then take it for a drive... drive it normal like you would daily. Get into some stop and go shit and then beat on it a bit then park it and let it idle some more while you bullshit and then if everythings cool no weird noise from the rear end i'd start jewing him down about the harmonic balancer and shit. Use the angle that if the balancer's bad it could wear out other parts or have prematurely warn them down already

buying a stocker is a good idea but after owning a few and wasting thousands and years of my life on this shit i've already told myself the next one I buy will be built already or at least have good heads on the shit so on one end if you go with the stocker you won't have to worry about someones hack job but with the other one you'll start out way ahead of most people

have fun and don't forget to check the torque boxes, shock towers and floor pans for damage or rust.

so while its running put my hand over the oil filler? wont oil start shooting out from the heads? The guy did shut it off before it warmed up cuz he said he didnt have alot of gas. He said he sanded the rust in the doors and painted them, but I dont know how good of a job he did and also it was painted black prev white and you can see white in the fenders and such.
I too also wanted to get a car with mods done already especially heads. Mainly money it wold take for me to put ontop of another car that cost the same. I mean the mods alone are 3g's + haha

Oil will not come shooting out.

Tell him you will buy a gallon or two of gas to let it idel and to take it for an extended test drive.

Dont buy into bull shit excuses. if he beats around the bush not allowing you to fully check this car out ,then you need to walk away regardless of how many modds it has. That would go to show you that he's hidding some big issues that your going to be stuck with

haha no oil won't come shooting out.

I wouldn't concider talking numbers with the guy unless I could take it for a spin.. the rear end could be shot in it or make noises warning you tht it's shot. The suspension could have issues hell the most common problem with these cars is the t5 transmissions so you sure as fuck need to drive it to make sure it shifts in and out of each gear properly both quickly shifts and slow shifts.. any grinding and say later because it'll need snyncros.

Whats the guys reason for selling it?

Sounds like the body's been fucked over pretty good if it's been repainted to a different color the cheap way so i'd be willing to bet after a little bit of time the previous owner's shitty bondo job will crack or rust will start showing under the paint if the car's had rust issues before and weren't taken care of properly.

Yeah I wasnt planning on purchasing until I have driven it and made sure the rear and tranny were ok. I just went today to look at it. As far as the reason why he is selling is because he said he need something "better" on gas haha. He has only had it for 6mo and im pretty sure gas was high then and still is now, not to mention he had a brand new silverado extended cab in the driveway. Who knows maybe he cant afford it with that new ride haha.
