Doing Explorer intake swap, have a few questions

In the middle of doing the Explorer intake swap (the intake came off a
98 Mountanier) on our 89 5.0 and have a few problems I've come across:

1) There is a sensor that screws into the #2 runner on the
89 intake, the Explorer intake doesn't have a spot for it,
will this be a problem?

2) The EGR spacer for the 89 has a small coolant hose that
uses a fitting in the back of the 89 intake which the Explorer
intake doesn't have, is the coolant line that necessary?

3) I removed the 89 injectors to transfer over, one has slight
cracks at the tip, is that a problem? What if I used the yellow
Explorer injectors, are they compatable?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, use to working on the older stuff

That sensor is the ACT. The most ideal place to put it is in the intake piping before the throttle body somewhere. That way it doesn't get heat soaked in the intake and give inaccurate temp readings. Some people just leave it laying there next to the fuel rail. Which will work, but I like the idea if it reading the actual air temp of the air the engine is ingesting rather than ambient underhood temps.

That coolant line is for the EGR. I forget which explorer intakes had external EGR passages, but that's probably the case. I've never run an explorer intake so I couldn't give you more info about that.

Can you post up a picture of the crack? is it in the cap that is removable or in the actual injector itself?

I looked on the Explorer intake and it has a place where the ACT sensor would go
but it's not drilled or tapped, maybe I can take it somewhere to get done
or do as you suggest and mount it elsewhere.

I'm not good at posted pics but it's at the tip where the fuel squirts out,
looks like it may be a plastic shroud, the shroud is what's cracked.

How about the o-ring's, is it critical to replace them?

Nice picture, that's what it looks like, the Explorer intake has the spot, it's
just not drilled or tapped for the sensor. Maybe I'll try and find a machine
shop that can do it for me.

Either way will work. Putting it in the intake piping is easier and will give a little more accurate readings. The heat from the engine will throw the actual sensor readings off because of it's location in the manifold. They're there stock obviously, but in the 94-95 mustangs they moved it to the piping for that reason.

It depends on the shape of the o-rings. It's a good idea to replace them, but I've re-used them lots of times and had good luck. If they are cracked or dry-rotted looking, change them. If they still look smooth and don't have any flat spots or gouges taken out of them you're probably ok.

If it's just that plastic cap that's cracked, you can get away with it. As long as it's the removable piece. Try to give it a tug and see if it pulls off. If it's the part I'm talking about it should slide right off the end of the injector.

You can add some wire and put in the intake tube also, but i wanted the factory look so i went to the hardware store and got the tap to do it myself.Get the egr return done too!

Put act in intake tube

Cracked pintle caps can cause a car to run like shit

Explorer injectors do work and are the same

No tears in the o rings = fine.
