1983 Mustang, Absolutely No Steering?

Basically the guys before me took off the power steering pump and ran a power steering rack with out the pump. So when I was pulling into my garage today, my steering wheel broke loose and I now have absolutely no steering? The steering wheel wouldn't turn the wheels in either direction.

When I turn the steering wheel the steering shaft in the engine compartment does not move at all. The tilt on the steering column is also shot, so it moves up and down freely.

Is it my steering column that went out or..?

Please help!

Anyone have any ideas? I really need to get this fixed!

If the steering shafts not turning with the wheel then it's gotta be the column but i never dicked around with a column before.. I'd rent or buy a steering wheel puller from autozone etc and pull the wheel off and figure out how to yank the column. Pull one from another car from a junkyard or find one else where and swap it in. Swap that looped ps rack for a manual one and start banging fat bitches in the back seat

Bought a new column for $40, pulled the old one out and put the new one in!
The Steering Shaft seems to be rubbing against my header a little, I don't think it's a big deal!

Also, how hard is a rack and pinion swap?
