good luck with the build.
I can tell you 1st hand that 4.10's will be the best choice with an AOD. I just put 3.73's in my sons 89 LX. It made a big difference going from 2.73's to 3.73's but there is still plenty of overdrive left in that AOD for 4.10's. We were either going with 3.73 or 4.10 and the 3.73's popped up 1st on CL for $50 bucks. Got 'em for $40

I have the FB performance 4stb (AOD) tranny seen here:
FB Performance Transmissions - PRO STREET/STRIP 4STB (AOD) - W/EOD (SMALL BLOCK FORD) I love it, the gears are real short tho. Love the transbrake, I was launching at every stop light when i first got it haha. You have to flick a switch that puts it into 4th gear (overdrive). It also has a tranny cooler. I bought the b&m hammer shifter to increase the fun factor, I do miss having the clutch pedal sometimes but I plan on going F/I by next summer and this tranny is strong. They sell other trannys rated at 450 hp for about half the price. FB Performance Racing Transmissions - Chevrolet, Chevy, Buick, Olds |

i also have 3.73's and at 60 mph in overdrive im at ~3,000 rpm (stock tach). Little too high for me, i'm getting 275/60/15 rear tires to make up for it. Once I graduate (next year hopefully haha) the car will become strictly a track and project car

I see that the FB Trans has different ratios
which ones did you get Standard Gear Ratio: 2.40/1.47/1.00/0.67 Optional Gear Ratio: 2.84/1.56/1.00/0.70 |

I too hate autos...as for horsepower a good clutch/pressure plate/flywheel combo can take care of that...my stock clutch on the Conquest could barely handle a hard launch at 8psi boost but when we dropped the bronze clutch in we got it up to 14psi believe it or not...a blown head gasket was the result a few days later...heeheee...but totally worth the thrill
