well i ran the wet test thursday i think and all was well. friday i started tearing into the car. my plan was pull the engine, replace all gaskets to rid of the huge all over oil leak and replace head gaskets, then do the clutch cause it was almost gone too.

heres the compression problem

thats between cylinder 1 and . it was starting to crack between 2 and 3 also.

after flipping the motor over to r/r oil pan gasket i found this

i thought holy shaved skirt. is this normal to shave that much off a piston. i know we shaved a little off the street stock motor but damn!

anyway got the motor back together ran the car for a while and was finished by sunday after noon. i worked this weekend to so i was only able to work on the car in the afternoons so was pretty proud of myself.

i do have to say thanks for the help from you guys

god yes.

i also removed ALL the smog shit since this car will handle track duties. the car is reg until jan 2012 so have until then to take it off the street or find a "helpful" smog shop.

is that smog shit worth anything? i basically chucked it but trash doesnt pick up till friday.

WHAT IN THE BALLS?!

what the hell where they doing with that motor? the blown head gaskets have me puzzled too. Maybe the previous owner was spraying the car with nitrous or something? and racing the hell out of it?

Sounds like you did a shit load of work. that much work took me a month, lol, but I gotta watch my kid during the day, and work at night.

Did you put in new rings and bearings? how did the bearings look?

i dont know what they where doin. i doubt they were spraying though, but who knows. so far im the third owner. the guy i bought it from had it for four years and bought i from the original owner. who told him (4 yrs ago) the motor had a fresh rebuild. so there should only be about 40000 on the reubuild.

everything in side looked great so i didnt tear into the bottom end. the only thing that looked questionable where the tops of the piston that where in the two dead cylnders, which is expected. who knows how long the gasket was bad?? i think i did the final breaking when i raced the old lady in the 02 to easter bbq. i may have over revved the motor. the speedo is crazy off due to the 410s and the tach doesnt work. those are now at the top of the list to fix. i have a tach laying around ready to be installed and from what ive read theres no reason to take this motor over 5000 rpm. good to know.

im gonna start moving further post back into the build thread. ive been really lazy lately, but for an update i have found a guy with an 82 5.0 parts car that i can rob some stuff off of, that means the power steering swap will be done soon. which means that flamin river manual rack will be up for grabs...
