Gotta new 5.0
so after realizing the first fox i bought for 250 buck wasnt gonna be on the road for atleast 25 yrs. i sold it, for more than i paid
, and started to sell other crap lying around the house. my goal was to collect about 2500 bucks then go looking for a 5.0 that was road worthy, and register-able. so friday i found it. i had so far only collected 1500 bucks, seller was asking ....1500 bucks. the car is a 1984 gt 5 speed. i wasnt to excited about that cause i was wanting 87-92, but after seeing the car i think i kinda like the front end more than i thought i didnt, if that made any sense? so already done to the car 89 front and rear suspension, including 8.8 alxe. 5 lug conversion with 03/04 cobras, mm caster camber plates, eibach sportlines, boxed upper and lower control arms and torque boxes. 410 gears. the car also came with a complete 89 lx front bumper, hood, fenders, and rear bumper. and dash and center console, all of which i think im going to sell. i drove the car home from LA (about 100 miles) so it road worthy. ran hard too, love the gears ill attach pics tonight the body is straight but def needs paint and the interior looks like it hasnt been cleaned since 1984

Sounds like a better buy than that mess of a shell you got before, lol. 1500 for all that work on the suspension/wheels alone is a pretty solid deal.

thats what i thought. i think this year and maybe next, im gonna stick to the open track events. work the kinks out. the first race around here is may 8th at button willow.
oh yea dont know how i forgot. it also has a flaming river manual steering rack. 4 turns lock to lock. cool but not fun in a parking lot. and an aluminun driveshaft that i think needs u joints, clanking when i get on it abruptly. it has the 600cfm dbl pumper holley and i think thats the only engine upgrade. i really know nothing about the foxes, and even less about the carbed foxes. i do actually have some things to fix before it will be allowed on a track. its got a pretty hevfty oil leak around the fuel pump. the previous owner, who ownes a hot rod shop in simi valley, said he thinks its the fuel pump gasket or the front cover. so ill start with the pump gasket. also i got an itch to put it up against the 02 GT. i thought the 02 would just walk away but it really didnt. the 84 wasn't faster, but didnt get walked either. after that though i developed a miss in cylinders 1 and 2 so think i popped the head gasket or have some valve adjusting to do. ahhh project cars huh......

as for the 84 5.0 H.O engine it only put out around 165hp

I like it.....Its weird because back in the day the only 4 eye stangs i liked was 85-86 but the older i got the more i started liking all fox body front ends....
You got to give it up to fox body mustangs....there the longest running body style of any mustang type

so what can i do to the engine as far as heads cam rockers intake carb on a limited budget. it doesnt have to be the fastest car on earth. just want to run good maybe 300 rwhp range
edit; ill be changing the fuel pump gasket tonight and possibly looking into the dead cylinders. i may have over reves the engine. the tach doesnt work and the speedo gear is still stock. what rpm range will the engine peak out at?

gt40 heads, intake, and a mild off the shelf cam will be plenty for a fun little ride.

ill be doing a compression test too. you gotta pull all the plugs at once to run a compression test?

you can still use GT40 heads, but you gotta use a carb intake. you can pull all the plugs if you want, but I would just pull them as you go. remember just pull the ignition coil wire so the motor doesn't start

thanks.
and the gt40 heads, are they the same as gt40p or gt40x heads? edelbrock preformer work with those heads. does anyone recommend a good carb cam, still want it to pass smog for now anyway.

so im pretty sure i have pedestal mount rockers? right? their seemed to be no way to adjust them other than shims. it def missing on cylinder one and two. plugs smelled like gas. i could here ticking if i pulled the wrie away from the dizzy. but when i put the wire back on or took off no change for those two cylinders. i didnt have any help or the right setup to turn the motor over manually so i couldnt actually tell if the valve was fully closing. i also didnt do a compression check yet. idk too lazy i guess.
