low coolant level light

I have a 1992 Mustang LX 5.0L and im getting the low coolant light in my instrument panel when i turn my car off. When the car is started or put into ACC mode the light turns off. Also over night my battery drained completely. I unplugged the coolant level sensor and the light remains on. Im thinking its a bad coolant level sensor but since the light did not turn off when i unplugged it I am unsure if replacing it will solve the problem. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Unplugging the sensor is the same thing as having the overflow tank full. I think you have a shorted wire somewhere.
