Looking for some advise on the new member of the family...

Hey guys,
Two days ago I was able to pick up a 1991 LX 5.0. The thing is MINT. The interior is perfect, it even has the original stock radio with tape player. I am at work right now but i am going to try and post some pictures tomm. My question is this, i am looking to start modding the ride, but i am not sure what direction to go with the mods that are already on the car. It has headers with flowmasters, intake system, the previous owner said that it has different gears which i KNOW is accurate (3.55's i THINK), and welded sub frame connectors. I think that is all that has been changed. Anyway, i was wondering if you guys had any opinions as to what mod would make the most sense next that would show the biggest gains in hp and tourqe. I dont know a lot about fox bodies, but i know i feel in love when i sat in this car the first time. This is after having a 2000 GT at 17(how do you define bad idea??) Any advise or opinions are greatly appreciated and as i said, i will do my best to post some pics tomm at some point

Welcome. You have a nice list of mods to begin with. What is your plan for the car? Street, strip, spirited weekend cruiser, DD? There is give and take when it comes to HP/TQ. Read what others are doing ask questions along the way.

The mod that will yield the most hp/trq. gains will be a new set of heads. Slap on some aluminum heads and your looking at a good gain. Not just any aluminum heads either. Many are within the same price range but not all are created equal. Shop around to get the best bang for your buck. Drop in a CAM to compliment the heads and you'll get even more out of the heads.

Well don't look for the best bang for the buck on heads, just get tfs 190s and call it. Get a matching tb in size and the biggest maf you can find. Get a nice upper intake like a super vic or systemax and rock the stock cam until you can afford some boost. 430rwhp plus on 10psi with a vortech or turbo and no lope from a cam is the perfect car.

I take it someone is partial to TFS. One cylinder head does not fit all applications. Choose a set of heads based on your application and HP/Trq. goal.

Welcome to the forum...I like the idea of cylinder heads as your next modd. You can find some used trick flows for around $800.They most likely wont be the 190s but they will still be great one. Be patient and you'll find a lot of used parts cheap

Pics of the new ride

Sorry it has taken so long guys but here are some pics of the new ride. As i said before, this thing is CHERRY. It is a 1991, it is original paint so keep that in mind, as well as ORIGINAL (not re-upholstered) seats, and ORIGINAL interior/carpet. Lemme know what you guys think. Also, thank you to all the posts in reply to what my next mod should be. I do have another question. I do think that new heads will be on the way soon, probably trick flow, so with that in mind, how does the forum feel about a 75-80 mm throttle body or a gt-40 intake manifold? Are they worth the money? If so, any particular brand?
I have some money to spend but i definatly do not have bottomless pockets. lol NOT in this economy. As always, thank you guys in advance for any advise and ALL opinions are welcome......

Fuckign A win purchase there. As long as you didn't pay over 4900. I'd paint the bumper, new headlights, and paint up the weather stripping first. That thing would be mint. Don't buy heads unless you are ready to do the intake and cam. Car doesn't need a 75mm tb, but you can def get mods like the biggest maf you can find, a big tb, long tubes/xpipe, some bullit muffers and work at the suspension. That way you can be ready for a top end kit.

First of all, thanks for the post. I am working on finding a shop locally to me that will do a good job with the bumper and i am also getting the front of the hood/front lower lip repainted. after all, it is 20 year old paint and it does have some rock chips and "normal" wear and tear. secondly, i had a few questions for you. When you say intake, do you mean air intake? if i didnt say it, i should have, i am not the most knowledgable person when it comes to cars/mods/parts. hence why i am here asking you for advise!! What would be the difference between the bullit mufflers and the flowmasters i have on there now? I do believe that they are the 40 series. In the post you said that it doesnt need a 75mm throttle body but it could use a big tb. Isnt a 75mm throttly body a big throttle body?? Finally headlights. That is something that i WANT to get done A.S.A.P. I am looking for something that is bright. I mean really bright. I want my headlights to look like the ones you see on new Cadillac's or Infiniti G35's. I love that blueish look that are insanely bright. I see in your signature that you have aftermarket lights on yours. Any advise on that front too???? THANK YOU very much for any advise you give me..like i said, i dont know much, but i am willing to learn.......

He's our president dude.

Anyways, your car doesn't need a 75mm tb because the intake manifold opening is smaller than that. But buying one now and using it wont hurt you and will be good for a future intake manifold.

By intake I ment intake manifold.

Flowmasters are chambered and are pretty sucky. They will work, but they are not optimal. If you really want you can rock em.

I would leave the flowmasters alone right now and put your money towards other things

LOL no i can understand that. Believe me, i am not one of "them". I am a law enforcement officer, my brother is a fire fighter/paramedic, and i grew up moving every 2 years because we kept changing air force bases with my dad. I am as American as anyone else is this country.
