Question

Need ideas on engine build for Street/Strip!

Something came apart in my motor a couple days ago so tomorrow ill be off for 3days so I'll start trouble shooting it then find out what's wrong... But I've desided to go ahead and start buying the parts to completely rebuild the motor.. It will be my everyday car but I'm wanting to build it around 400+hp all motor.. with that HP range will it get descent mileage with the right gears?
I may want to put Nitrous, turbo or supercharger on in the future...

93 Mustang GT 5.0 302

Forged 4340
SCAT Crankshaft. SCA-43022 stroke 3.250" rod length 5.400"

SCAT 4340 Connecting rods H-Beam
SCA-6540092720 length 5.400" weight 590g
Or should I get the I-Beam?

Clevite bearings
TriArmor Mains and Rod bearings
Standard Cam Bearings

Not sure on what pistons and rings looking for 10:1 or 11:1
Will premium fuel run in 11:1 motor?

High-volume oil pump

Need good idea on a really good set of heads..
trick flow, Dart, AFR?

What would be the best cam?

Thumper Comp cam
1,900-5600 duration 227°/241° lift .531"/.515"
2,200-5,900. 235°/249° .541"/.526"

Voodoo Lunati
1,800-6,200. 227°/233° .522"/.538"

COMP CAM
Endure-X roller lifters

COMP Cam Hi-tech pushrods

COMP Cam 1.6 roller rockers

COMP Cam stud girdles
.................................................. ... ........
Want to have it balanced as well..
what should I add to the list?
Intake, throttle body, mass air flow, fuel pump, regulator, Injectors, headers?
Do I need to change the fuel rail?

And what HP range am I looking at having?

Looking to install T-56 with 2.97 1st and .50 6th with 3.73s in the rear should be cruising at 1,900 rpm at 70mph...

None of those cams are enough to get you there.

If you build this engine to make 400 rwhp, that doesn't leave you any room for boost or N2O before you reach the limits of the block. To make that power N/A, chances are you'll have to much compression for boost anyways.

The motor in my mustang I just burned on of the piston out of had to have less then 30,000 miles on it... There was absolutely no oil sludge anywhere in the motor everything from the valley to the heads were clean.... The pistons where clean except for the one...

ILL NEVER INSTALL E3 Spark Plugs in anything I own..
I'll post pictures of the damage they did to the motor!
One of the plug cages where it sparks was completely destroyed!

69fastback
if the cams I listed aren't enough can you list some that are?

What do I need in the motor to get 400+ hp?
What is the max HP out of stock 302 blovk

If you're making 500 rwhp with a 302, you're on borrowed time. A 351 is safe at 700ish.

You cant make 400rwhp na with a 302. It's impossible. That being said... Pheads, any cam in the world, explorer intake; 10psi with a strim and your at 400rwhp.

SCAT 4340 Connecting rods H-Beam

I beams are lighter and will let you rev faster and higher. No need for H beams at your power level
Clevite bearings
TriArmor Mains and Rod bearings
Standard Cam Bearings

Will premium fuel run in 11:1 motor?

11:1 can run pump gas, but it has to be aluminum heads, and the valve event's have to be correct. The cam is what will really determine that
High-volume oil pump

Get a standard volume pump. The drain back set-up on a stock block isn't sufficient enough for a high volume pump.
Need good idea on a really good set of heads..
trick flow, Dart, AFR?

On a stock block, I like wedge heads because there's no valve shrouding issues. Depending on your budget, TEA 205's are a nice head to go with
What would be the best cam?

Build the rest of your combo before you do the cam. Then call a cam manufacturer and ask what they recommend. Or better yet, have a custom one ground.

You need to figure out your goals before you start your build.

Can you build a stroker motor out of the 302???
What hp can you safely get out of the 302???

If I was to put a power adder it would be 2 or 3 years down the road.

Stroked to 331 or 347, 500 is the limit, but don't go passed 450 just be safe or you'll be building it again.

lol, yea you can stroke a 302. That 3.25" stroke crank is for a 302. 3" stroke is a 302, 3.25" stroke is a 331 and 3.4" stroke is a 347... for the most part. Bore size will change these numbers a bit, but in general those are the cubes you will be at with those stroke cranks on an 8.2 deck sbf.

There's not much that's safe on a 302. With the right tune, and a well put together bottom end, you can make them live with over 400whp with no issues. With the wrong tune you can split them at 300whp. Most of the blocks split from cap chatter. Main studs help with that but you have to get the mains line honed with the studs on. RPM is the number one reason the caps will walk. If you do a 28oz crank 347 and a good topend, you should be right at the limit at the blocks safe zone if you do it right.

So 347 stroker is safe at 400hp? Will it be a reliable motor for a daily driver? And can you put a supercharger on it?

Ok and if you read the post you quoted I said 400hp and not 400RWHP!! And I asked if the 347 stroker was reliable!?
