I talked to two reputable engine builder around here, the ysaid if I took the motor back out and brought them the short block it would be 1500-2000 to take apart, balance and put back together. He said since I started it he would nto put it back together without all new rings, rod and main bearings. That just seems nuts to me. Would It be worth my while to put a 28oz balancer and flywheel and give it a shot? It is a street motor, not going to be turning high RPMS. I really dont want to sink another 1500 in this thing, unless I really need to. Would much rather spend the 1500 on a better set of heads and cam.

I thought it was a simple question also. I asked "what balancer should I put on it" he just kept saying it would be easier to balance with a 28 then it would a 50. I having this thing all the way together and running, really going to set me back time and money if I have to take it all back out and have the short block rebuilt. But if that is what I have to do then I guess thats all part of learning, huh? Now I wish I would have asked more questions about balancing than I did about my shitty h/c/i when I was putting together...lol

That price seemed crazy to me, it was late in the day before I had the chance to call around much. I just talked to two different guys that was reconmended to me. I will do some more calling around tomorow. WHat balancer and flywheel would you all recomend? What about a summit balancer? Hawks flywheel from TMD?(even though they are dodging my question). Thats the best prices I have found but dont want to get total junk.

My local shops prices for a single engine customer

degrease block - $42.00
check align bore - $42.00
hone block - $58.00 or
bore & hone - $126.00
clean & polish crank - $38.00 or
clean & grind crank - $126.00
shotpeen crank (optional) $31.00
balance crank (need weight of rod & piston, & need balancer & flywheel) - $126.00
valve job (302 heads) $370/pair - this is an estimate - not sure what parts are needed in your heads

JBs Auto and machine
Philidelphia Rd White Marsh Md

I use them a lot to do engine work for me so there 20% cheaper for me.
