New car; slight carburetor issue

ok, just bought an 87 LX. it runs great but at 5000 rpm it acts as if it has hit a rev limiter. any ideas? is it just improper jet sizing or what?

oh and pic

believe me, paint is the first priority, but i'd like a heads up on the carb issue just so i can work on that while its being painted

Looking like that, I wouldn't worry about the revving issue until it's repainted. The car's prolly just mad someone did that to it, lol.

85, yes. we got an EXTREME deal on this 87 so we could NOT pass it up. a family member was selling it and wanted it to remain in the family so we obliged lol. the 87 is going to be my DD for a while. and since we're going to keep it for sure, we might as well paint it right and get it running strong.

the 85 will start accumulating new parts as soon as i begin my terminal leave, but i'm thinking we'll do a nice drivable 347 with a C4. the 4 eye hatch has really grown on me and i really want to see it back to its full glory (with a lil extra power lol). the 09 is kind of evolving into my race car and it's getting to the point that i don't want to drive it everyday.

the 85 will not be forgotten. i say this now and i really hope i'm right. but i think with the job opportunities i have in my future, there will be no shortage of restoration funds. i have a vision in my mind of what i want each car to be, and the vision i had of my 09 is coming to fruition so i have hopes that i can achieve similar results with both the 87 and 85. the 87 i think will be easy. i just want a nice simple DD to hand down to the little guy when he hits high school (one that can pull him some tail). i want the 85 to be a little more on the wild side but still "drivable" so that the GF can take it out every now and then.

either way, i think our little family has some fun times ahead modding/restoring/racing these vehicles. i want the 85 to be mine and nash's project. one that he can tell all his jealous kindergarden friends about.

plus, the four eye is a future classic and i'd be doing a disservice to all the mustang community by letting it rot.

yep, gotta love the 4 eyes... Sorry the Aero nose never really did it for me, always preferred the 4 eye. But man, gotta love that paint! Looks like what one of the kids in school did to his full sized Blazer after he lowered it and put it on 13" wire spoked rims...

Or it could have a rev limiter.

Floats could need raised a bit... there are alot of possibilities, i would check the timing, depending on the distributor, I would set it 12-14 base, and then if that doesnt work, raise the floats a little... if that doesnt work, take the gest out and show us what jets they are.

is more than 5000 rpm regular for a stock motor or does yours have some work. my 84 feels like it done around 5k rpm. i though that was all a stock motor had?

My tach redlines at 6000 so idk. I mean the power drops off at about 4000 but at 5 the tach just bounces

She finds a car for you while you're away and that wasn't enough, you had to get another. Just Greedy! Hope you get it squared away, I know nothing about carbs except for cleaning and rejetting the one's on my bike, so I can't really contribute. But hope all is well with the 4 eye too.
