fox gauge issues

I've been doing some research trying to find information on stock gauge issues. Fox's seem to have a lot of stock gauge problems, but I can't really find any information on something that's a little more specific to my case. I would appreciate some advice before I waste time and money chasing something when I don't really know what I'm doing.

My speedometer is not accurate in the least. I pretty much just bounces around as it pleases, with the only pattern that it increases/decreases it's range with the speed of the car. In addition, the fuel gauge is stuck on empty. I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I've run out of gas twice (having trouble guessing the mileage of my first v8.

I have some trouble shooting bouts lined up for now, but none are ideal on crutches. So I kinda want to have a plan for when I finally get back on my own two feet.

Anyone have any past experience or advice on this situation? All answers are greatly appreciated.

i had the same issues with those same two gauges...

When it come to the fuel gauge it could be: the gauge it self, the wiring to the fuel tank,or the fuel sending unit......But 90-93 mustangs there is also a anti slosh circuit board that plugs into the back of your gauge cluster, this circuit board is also a voltage regulator for your gauges.. In my case my circuit board was bad, it just plugs right in

As for your speedo....Its either the gauge it self or the speedo cable.

I figured id replace my speedo cable because there cheap, after replacing it, it was still just bouncing around. It turns out my stepper gear or some thing like that was messed up inside, so i just went and bought a used gauge cluster, you can buy just the speedo if you need to, but if you do end up having to replace your complete cluster, you can only use the ones from 90-93, even though they all look the same, they are not.

My speedometer gauge didnt move at all and then when I hit 5th or high rpms in 4th the needle would start bouncing up and down. I pulled the speedometer cable and the speedometer gear was eaten up. That might be the problem if the other things ryan suggested arent the reason
