sound system set up
hi guys, just wondering if anyone has had any experience testing subwoofer set ups in a 99-04 GT coupe.
i have 2 jl 10w3v3s powered by an alpine pdx m6 digital amp that i want to make a custom box for but cant decide if i want them facing each other, facing the front, or the back. right now I am looking at 3 options, 1. one similar to the zenclosures box. two subs pressed up against the back seats and firing backwards into the trunk. i like this one because it saves some space and looks neat. 2. getting two separate fiberglass enclosures that will be located in the two corners of the trunk (right by where the tail lights are) and have the subs facing up/the front of the car. this will help save space the best as i can still put down the rear seats and have an even larger trunk space. 3. same as #2 but have the subs facing each other. my only concern is i want good quality, clean and full bass and I don't want the trunk or car to rattle. also, I would like to save trunk space if possible. if anyone could help me with their experience, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks! |

You can face them at each other and make it sound good, but it's a bit tougher to do so because you need to have them at the correct distance apart. If you put them in opposite corners, you might get lucky and it will sound good, you might not and it will sound like shit. If you want clean bass, make sure you do a sealed box and definitely do what digsj7 said, get the right box. No matter how good your sub is, if it's in the wrong box, it will sound like garbage. If the subs are brand new, they should have a sheet telling you what dimensions the box needs to be. Should be 2 different styles of box they list, a sealed and a vented. Vented boxes will be louder and lower, sealed boxes will be tighter and cleaner. JL's always sound amazing in sealed boxes. One of the only subs I like in a sealed box. If you don't want the trunk to rattle, be prepared to do some work. Dynamat and great stuff are your friends... Just be careful with the great stuff, it expands a lot when it dries. Don't put a lot in a small area and then seal it up with something. I've seen that stuff make a mess of things when people don't know what they're doing with it. |
