lost polish on cobra rims! Help!

I have the polished obviously cobra rims. I was told they were chrome...i didn't honestly know. Well I bought chrome cleaner and it took the polish right off. I tried all rim cleaner and it didn't bring it back. How can I bring it back? My only other options are powdercoating or jus spray the rest of the rims with the chrome cleaner cus it makes it look titanium... But I want the polish back.

Good news they are fixable, but bad news it takes some time. I would go buy some Mothers Aluminum polish and some never dull and see if you can save yourself some labor. If not that means sanding them down, and repolishing them.

Please post a photo if you can (or send one to me if you can't).

You might need something stronger, polish-wise, because if you have polished bare aluminum and stained them with the chrome cleaner, the staining can be a real PITA to polish off.

Also, knowing the exact products you used would be very helpful.

PM me if you can't post a photo, but can send one by camera phone or email.

Oh, if you do have some metal polish, rub a little with a cloth and it should turn black -- that means you don't have a clearcoat.

I thought most of the factory polished wheels were polished with a clearcoat. If you have a clearcoat, you'll need to strip it and then polish with regular Mag & Aluminum Polish and a PowerCone (probably the most appropriate shape of Power tool for these wheels).

I'm not sure how to post pics yet but the cloth turned black. I tried a small spot lastnight with mothers polish and never dull. It was dark outside so I only tried a small spot but it really cleard up nice. When I finish later I can email pics to whomever wants to see this for future reference. I'm pretty happy with this.

If you you have any troubles, let me know.

And if you can email me some pics, I'd appreciate it -- add .com to my sig.

If you can't email pics but can take phone pics and you can send to my cell phone (email me for it), that would work too.

Include a pic of the wheel cleaner, too.

I might recommend I send you some polish and a special PowerBall we have -- maybe you got lucky, but I'm thinking you'll need some strong polish to get those out. Jut trying to help you recover for a mistake. Believe me, it's not going to be fun, so if I can ease your pain a little I'm glad to help, no charge.

Mothers polishing products are the best! And apparently their support for us is even better. Thanks Jim for trying to help the guy out. Your guy's products truly do help to make car care less of a burden, and more of a pleasure. I have your powerball, powerball mini, and cone. Each product has it's place and it's very beneficial to own them all. Just wish there was an easier way to clean them after using them on aluminum, to get all the black out of the foam. Any ideas for us?
