Just wondering since i have a custom crankshaft grinder in my city. And if they did do it would it sound european/exotic? just wondering......

Thinking outside of the box can be bad.

How could a even firing mustang 5.0 motor be bad?

Phone the shop you are talking about and ask them. Then find out how much a camshaft would cost for your custom firing order, and a custom distributor cap.
Then, after wasting all that time, realize that the Ford engineers know a hell of alot more than you and have it figured out. |

You would need an even fire crank too. The rod journals would need to be offset in order for you to be able to use an even fire firing order. Then you would have to have the even fire cam, and you would have to re-wire your injectors to fire correctly for the set-up.
Edit: nevermind on the crank.. I just did some looking up and it was the v6's that had the offset journals... Still can't change the firing order on these cars tho outside of the HO and non-HO firing order as far as I know. |

I presume you don't just mean even fire, but a flat plane crank, so that there is no odd pulse in the exhaust. You would need a fabricated crank and a matching cam as well. The electronics are the least of your worries - you can always rearrange your distributor wires and your injector wires.
It might be cheaper to fabricate a set of 180 degree headers that are tied to the firing order and cross over under the motor - that would get you the same sound with the stock firing order. And you'd be able to keep the engine balanced - a V8 with a flat plane crank cannot be balanced against second order vibration (which is the biggest reason Ford didn't do something like that). |

Euro hi-po engine & even firing with short stroke and small pistons is good.
Ford hi-po engine & even firing with long stroke and large pistons is bad. TWISTED CRANK WILL PROBABLY BE THE RESULT.

I have seen a 302 run with a 180 degree flat plane crank and a custom cam. Problem is that no matter how you balance it it will have an inherent vibration SOMEWHERE in the rev range, I'm not sharp on it but it is possible to balance or tune it in a way that that magic number is outside its operating range.
To me it sounded like a harley on steroids but that had a lot to do with the exhaust. It made hella torque (Especially low end) but had hella problems. Its something cool but expensive and tough to pull off correctly. |
