car died on me WTF!!!!


Ok so today I decided to drive my car after it sat for two weeks. Put new plugs,msd cap-rotor,coil and ford racing 9mm wires. Car started up fine and I realized my taillights dont work but brakes do.
So I started driving to head to base and I had the a/c running. I turned off my a/c then turned it back on and all of a sudden my car would completley shut off until i turned the a/c back off....wierd. I tried it again and same problem happened and I didnt come back to life after that and I had to get it towed.
Once I got it home it had a little bit of juice but wouldnt turn over at all just die again. Left the keys in to push it in the garage and I came outside and my cars radio was playing. Tried to start it and nothing dead again. Kinda wierd never experienced this EVER!!! Weird things started happening after I installed my autometer tach which doesnt even work when i put onto coil. Sooo im gonna rip that pOS out....

Any other suggestions?????? Need help dont want to buy pointless parts. Got battery checked 2wks ago and they said it was still good.

You hook tach wire to the right one on the coil? And sounds like you have a bad case of the electrical gremlins. I would go under the dash and check ALL ground connections there first. Take them off and sand the metal a bit and put them back on if you really want to be sure. Start working your way under the hood after that. Look for one on the drivers side to the engine block and from the back drivers side of the intake (I think second bolt in or something) to the firewall. Remove, clean, and reinstall all those connections.

yeah I tried to put the tack on the right side of the coil and car doesnt turn over, put it on the other side and car starts but tach doesnt haha. Im gonna start with the ground wire from the tach and see if that jacked everything up. If that doesnt fix it im taking the tach off completelty and selling it. Anyone need a 5in autometer tach with shift lite/white face haha.

If the car works fine without the tach, just ditch it or call autometer.

You may have f'd up the tach if you hooked it up wrong the first time. Either that or a bad ground like said already. I would check tach ground first.

Check the connections on the solenoid on the drivers fender and at the battery, make sure everything is tight. You have a loose connections somewhere I think.

I could'nt of ruined the tach at first cuz i hooked it to the neg side and battery was disconnected.

Ok so I pulled the pos terminal off of the battery scraped it a little and it fired right up and I also took the tach out fir extra precaution. Weird cuz I brushed the terminals and put that battery gel on two wks ago.

Don't stop there. Check them all. The weakest point will show up first, then put stress on the next crappy connection. Just go through them all. You could have moved the the other side of the wire around enough on the starter solenoid to make better contact. Ever heard the saying 'a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link'?

Why wouldn't the tach work if it was hooked up correctly? If your car works fine without it, and messes up with the tach, then, either you're doing something wrong or the tach is not working.

well the tach lite comes on when I turn on lights so thats working and it jacks up when I hook up my tach wire. I took the dumb thing off and car is running fine.

Sounds like a piece of shit that was somehow backfeeding onto the coil sense wire.

then would'nt my car not fire at all? And as far as the alternator i notice that when I turn my ac on it drops from in the middle down a bit and also if I roll my windows down at idle it drops also.

Mine does the same thing as far as the voltage goes and I have a 95 amp unit. It was the tach that was your problem. You should hook it up on the left side of the coil looking into the hood from the front.

just get a nsd 6al box and hook it up and plug the tach directly into the box

on another note, autometer makes quality stuff... did u buy the tach new or used. I havent really had an issue with one of their guages that i can remember. and what tach did u get? how many wires are coming out of the back?

I bought it used and it has a red/white/ground/black wire for the coil.
