My A/c has took away my will to live
Naturally it wasn't working when I first got the car; I just wish people took more care of their foxes instead of treating them like rat rods.
I added: New compressor and clutch New accumulator + hose New hose that goes down under the passenger side exhaust manifold And it keeps leaking. Every time I refill it with freon, it blows cold and strong, then acts as a hairdryer only the next day. A depletion that quick must mean its a big ass leak, no? Well I got it injected with a substance and checked with a UV light the next day to locate leaks, and nothing showed up. The only remaining possibility was the evaporator core assembly located in the firewall. I got it replaced with one I got off the junkyard because I wasn't able to find it new. As always, it blew nice and cold all evening, and was fully leeched of any refrigerant the morning after. FUCK, right? I'm not sure what to do now, I don't even wanna think of the possibility that the evaporator core from the junkyard was bad. Cost me $120 to install along with a rackety interior now cus it was half-assly assembled I presume. Could it be possible that its a leak so small it didn't show up during inspection? Could it be my compressor cus I've bought a remanufactured one? There's this little blow-off valve thing on the compressor that whistles like a tea pot, I guess cus there's no gas in there? What should my next step be? 100 degrees is the norm here |

The UV dye is usually the good tell tale of what's going on, so IDK. Worst case scenario, LRS sells the whole A/C system for like 800 bucks. If I ever go back to A/C, that'd be the only way to go for me, since I had a massive leak too. But it's all ripped out now.

OK here's an update
I just returned from the shop (different, more high end one this time) As it turns out, it was the condenser grille. Located in front of the radiator grille, both are covered from the top by a metal sheet. That's exactly why it never showed up during the UV inspection. Guy checking it never bothered to remove this cover. Now get this. There was an extremely faint hiss from an indeterminable source. After the mechanic pushed in the hose leading to the condenser, the hiss became louder, coming from 1 source now. It was then clear that the grille was the culprit, and upon removing it we found out that it was banged up pretty good and needed some welding. We refilled the a/c and she runs like a charm..for now. I just hope this time my happiness is not as short-lived as after previous attempts. |
