cut eibach springs???

ok so i have read about a million diff threads on spring rates, cuts of them, and anything else besides what i am looking for. has anyone cut any coils of eibach drag springs? the saleman at jegs said they were going to lower the car about an inch which would have given me a good look and still the drag characteristics. well he was full of shit bc they didnt at all. i would rather have the functionality of them vs the look, but i do want the look if i can get away with taking a coil out or so. i still want close to the same ride quality out of them. thanks for any input. yes i know many guys run the fox 4 cyl springs cut and they work decent. i went with the drag springs for "new" sake.

Did you change the shocks as well? Springs without shocks drive like shit.

Bedford you decide to cut wait 3-6months. Over time new springs will settle down to their proper ride hight. The longer you can resist the urge to cut the more accurate the ride hight will be in the end. And may also keep you from having to cut the springs.

Using the torch to cut the springs will affect their rates and amount of travel

do not remove the bump stops as they act as a spring with a variable rate.

If you cut the springs wrong like the dumbass mexicant did that owned the civic before me the springs will not stay in their perch correctly. Thus my cracked windshield. (the civic is now sitting on ebiach pro springs and shocks all around) still has the same ride hight as the cut springs but now I no longer bottom out over even the small holes. And they should settle down a nit more yet.

The back gap does not look to bad but the front has a big gap.

Are those 15in rims? Go up a size or 2 and get lower profile tires looks better and will give you less flex in the sidewal increasing the handling ability of your car

A little bit of x-tra info for ya but hope it helps

yea i appreciate guys...ill wait to see if they settle down after a while. i was going to take a 1/2 coil off the front using a cutting wheel. i would never cut them with a torch and generate the heat like that. take it nice and slow.

I actually just put their pro set on the civic spring and shocks all the way around for just under 500 and the ride hight is about the same as the cut springs but I no longer bottom out. So far (about a week) I have enjoyed their suspension seams like they have a good product we will se how they hold out in the long run

i was going to leave the back alone. i dont mind that gap at all. when the car squats it just misses the fender. the fronts are 24.5in tires. they really dont even support it properly. they are squished down to almost the sidewall. i was going to go with some MT 26x6 up front after i kill the shitty BFG's. with that tire taking up a little more room and maybe cut a 1/2 coil if it doesnt settle to much i should be good. as far as the 15in wheels i have never been a fan of big rims on straight line cars. i hardly ever drive this on the road. its just an on going project that gets taken to the corner store and such.

I personally would heat a spring before I cut one. But you have to be careful and watch the progression or it can get away from you. Heat both sides of a coil that you can access with the car on it's weight and without risking burning anything. Witnessed a guy heating leaf springs once too, THAT I would never do.

yea leaf springs would be a bad idea i think ha. i think that since the coil is consistant through the whole spring it would be better to cut it with little. this way you dont distort any of the metal properties.
