Will the t-5 handle it?

I got a 1993 Mustang GT its pretty stock. only mods it has are 15x10 tires, a pair of ford racing shorty headers, flowmasters, x-pipe. best the car has done is a 14.599 on street tires. I was wonderin do you think the T-5 could handle 4,000 launches with slicks? It works perfect right now. and do you got any idea what the car would do with slicks?

4.10s, posi, and a PRO-5.0 coming soon.

you are better off upgrading your t-5 to a G-force T-5 and you wouldnt
have to worry about it cuz they handle 500 hp

Yeah they are rated at 600, but 500 hard running would be better on it. 4,000 passes??? Man that's a lot of track time. You must live there.

I've run deep in the 11s with 1.5x 60 foot times and launching at 6000 rpm with a stock T5. If you are going to do it make sure you are prepared to replace the transmission because it will eventually fail.

By the way, talking about the G-Force, not the stock. Just in case that was misunderstood.

Yes your 89 should have a T5 rated at 265 ft lb.

No, it failed eventually. This was one of my other cars. It lasted for about 40 passes. I think it was a fluke though because I had an 88 GT that ran 13s on street tires and I broke that transmission almost every time I went to the track.

+1

I ran mid 11s on nitrous leaving off the rev limiter, pulling mid 1.5x 60's with my T-5 in a 3600 pound car, for almost two years.

Then I sold it to some teenager who still has it in his daily driver to this day, with no issues at all.

Most T-5 failures are due to improper clutch setup or bad shifting.

just get an automatic transmission......they hold alot more and you can make them shift quicker and more efficiently and you will be more consistent with an auto too

Where did you come up with the 4000 launches number? T-5's suck in stock form.. You may get 40 launches out of a stock one with slicks.. maybe more maybe less.. Depends on how hard you rip the shifter..

Maybe is the key word!

Most of the time T5s lean toward the maybe less portion of that phrase.

Yeah in my last Mustang I had a medium built 306 with 4.56 gears and I got 11 4000 rpm launches out of it... Get a Tremec... best money I ever spent in the tranny dept...
