Just gotta know....

What is it about the TF stuff that it's all people on here recommend? I mean hell anything is an improvement over stock. I'll see people on here with a set of aftermarket heads and asking about a build and the first thing people do is suggest selling them and buying TF even if it's out of budget. Just a completely random question and don't mean to start any shit here. I'm not biased towards any brands TBH. Just curious as to why it's all people recommend.

because they have been proven to work.....

Some people say there on a budget and want gt40 heads and then say they want to have them ported and polish, with that same money they could have purchased TF heads, makes no sense saying your on a budget but your willing to dump a shit load of money into stock heads.

not to mention every ones HP wants grow over time, why spend money twice, just save a little more and buy the better shit the first time...and save your self from disapointing results

I'm not arguing the point they've proven a good name for themselves.

And porting the GT40 heads and such is definitely understandable, but any set of aftermarket heads would be cost effective over porting and polishing some GT40 or P heads.

I bought a running 302 with some Edelbrock Performer RPM heads for $600. Hell I can sell the rest of the engine and have ~$250 in a good set of heads. But the first thing someone will do is suggest selling them. I guess I just don't get it.

I dont think that TF is the only good head out there, I have AFR and those are known to be good, i've heard good things about certain model of edelbrock heads and there are many more out there but trick flow is plentiful and Ive heard the most about them and AFR so that tends to be the ones i recommend

Understandable. I'm just simple minded I guess. To me anything is an upgrade over stock.

i do agree with that....but some of the cheaper after market heads have quality issues and ends up costing you the same as a higher quality head by the time you fix the issues with them.......

Now if all some one is looking to do is make a slight improvement over stock and there content with that, then yes any head will do, gt40, gt40p, world products, ect.... the list goes on, but unfortunately, every one wants more, and then they want to know what there car cant keep up with the big boys, well because i thought they were happy with there slightly improved aftermarket head, now they either stay there , or rip those heads off that they just bought last year and now have to do it all over again

Plenty of good aftermarket heads put there. There are some crappy ones too though as mentioned. I don't know about you bit I wouldn't put a set of Patriot heads on my car unless they've been reworked which is a waste of money anyway compared to better name heads.

agreed, procomps are the same way, they would need to be reworked, from what ive heard. After that cost you might as well just have bought the better heads in the first place....this hobby isn't cheap

Yeah, that's just the typical nature of a man lol. Even if you do things right the first time it's still not enough.

But I am not hard to please, so my Edelbrock heads will suit me fine over my E7's. Swap those on and an on3 kit (those are the plans for now) and shoot for 450 HP with 11's and I'll be a happy camper. Until the time comes for the epic LS swap!

the problem is everyone wants 400 hp for $1000 people need to understand that this is an expensive hobby so a lot of patience goes a long way

It's the rotated intake valve angle of the trickflow that makes me suggest it over most other heads on a stock bore engine. Inline valve heads with a 2.02 intake valve end up close to the edge of the cylinder wall on a stock bore and shroud the valve some. A wedge head rotates the valve inward and angles it so that it's unshrouded by the bore.

Def an expensive hobby. Especially because you can't upgrade one thing without upgrading everything else, unless you want your car to run like ass.

That's exactly why^^^ Not to mention the versatility of sending the base (170) heads to a few different places to end up with a larger head. I haven't researched all other heads, but cnc porting vs. hand porting heads larger wins for me.... big time! I'm a believer in consistancy, and I wouldn't be able to afford a BIG NAME porter to do them by hand for the same or better results for the money spent.
