got a gt40 tubular intake
hey guys,
got the gt40 tubular intake for 100 bucks! bad news is i didn't notice a hairline crack in the lower intake manifold. can that be fixed by a machine shop? the upper intake is in great condition though. |

Even if it can't, GT-40 lowers are a dime a dozen. It's the upper that's worth the big money.

are u serious about the jb weld? if u think it'll work i'll give it a shot. the crack isn't that bad, it's just they tried to do some outside welding onto it that made it look sorta ugly and bubbly. man, i'm too blind to even spot that. i could've offered the guy 75 bucks for that problem.
btw army, i saw most of ur vids on youtube. man your car pulls like a m*fucker! good job bro |

then pull it off, and get any areas you couldn't reach while it was bolted down. but if there are any cracks in the coolant passeges or anything, your risking that getting pulled into the motor. so its probably not worth the risk, and would be much simpler to just find another lower intake. Thanks for checking out my videos!

JB weld works awesome actually. I would have no problem JB welding up and intake even if it was a crack to a coolant passage as long as you prepped it right and made sure it's fully cured before use. Once that stuff dries, it's pretty solid.

You can always go on ebay and buy the lower intakes......the cobra, the explorer, and the tubular gt40 all use the same lower intake, there everywhere.....Like fogged said its the top tubular intake thats worth the money plus you have the cover plate that are missing on every one else's.....and by the way...your welcome

the cracks are only at the air passage. it looked like they had it welded but the weld looks pretty shitty to me. there's also a crack on the threads that holds the upper intake together.. i'm gonna bring it to a machine shop and see what they can do about it. can machine shops do a pressurize on the intake to make sure there's no leak coming from the coolant passage? it looks pretty clean to me but now looking it at the daytime it looks pretty beat up and like army said, don't wanna take any chances. but yea, i should really dedicate this post to ryan, thanks for the great tip man! mapquest gave me a estimated 50 minutes to get there, i got there in 38 minutes. haha.

if its going to cost more then a hundred bucks to fix then either go to a junkyard and pull one your self or just buy another lower intake, not a big deal bro...you got the best part

Mine cost $120 I think from a local guy. port matched the intake to gasket/heads, and a bit of port & polish, nothing crazy.

you dont have to buy that one...is was one of the cheaper ones with the buy it now option that i found, it looks dirty in the picture but should clean up great with a wire wheel and carb cleaner. Make sure you ask any questions you have to the seller before you buy. when you go to ebay just search...Explorer intake or cobra intake or gt40 intake (the lowers only) ect...... Good luck
