Mustang Stock needed upgrade

Hey guys.
I have a 1993 GT 5.0. It is still stock and with 170K miles. Believe it or not it still has the original starter and such with the normal oil change, sparks and etc. changes. (I have had this ride since 1992)

I would like to do a bit of sprucing to the perfromance side but do not want to race all out.

Ideas are: Exhaust, Air induction, brakes.

The key is I want to upgrade for a bit more power but keep the stock look.

Your ideas are welcome as to where to begin and any pitfalls/bonuses of uprades

My first mod would be underdrive pulleys and a cold air induction kit. You will definetly feel the difference over stock! The pulleys will allow the engine to rev faster and with less drag and of course the cold air kit just lets the engine breath easier. Good luck!

If it is completely unmolested and in good shape, my opinion is to leave it be. Good looking stock fox bodies are hard to come buy. Look around for a used Fox that already has some work done to it and use that as your project car. I know my opinion is not going to be the popular one though

This is not really directed to you but here is the chain of events as I think they play out.
In this situation, the plan is to start small, most people that have a little extra cash turn that something small into a hobby and it typically goes much further. At some point you (or someone very close to you) realize that you are putting too much time and money into the car and then it sits around for a while and collects dust in a condition that is not as complete as you'd like it to be. The heartfelt connection with the car wears off in a while and you realize (or someone very close to you) it should not be even sitting around here any longer. Many times there are references from neighbors, friends, or relatives along the lines of "what are you doing with that thing in the driveway|garage". You say, all it needs is blah blah blah.. At some point you come to terms with the situation and realize that you are not really going to finish it and put any more money into it. You put it up for sale at a price that no one is going to pay thinking.. hey, look I much I spent on this stuff. Let me show you the 20 receipts I have, those heads only have 500 miles on them!! You reluctantly lower the price and someone buys it and the cycle repeats itself all over again with a new owner.

I wouldnt go to far into modifications like NOLIFE saidbecause stock foxes are hard to find but I would do little things to it to give it a little bit extra power without spending tons of money and completly making unstock

Put underdrive pulleys on it headers and exhaust and thats about all I would do and possibly a cold air intake that way you can easily return it to stock if you wanted to oh and if its a 5-speed you could put a shifter in it like a Hurst or some kind of short throw with shift stops

mustang stock needed upgrade

I would do the cold air intake and exaust like these guys mentioned and another good bang for the buck upgrade would be a gear change

If you want the most out of your gears get the 4.10's, but get some traction so on the hard launches you not just spinning your wheels. There is only a couple 100 rpm's difference, but I personally would stick to 3.55's or 3.73's because I do a lot of highway driving. If you are not wanting a lot of power and speed, I would do the stuff that can be easily reversed if you change your mind or want to sell it. Stuff like gears, pulley's, intake, exhaust, but the brakes are fine stock if you're not going to drag race all the time. They do help the appearance, though. If you want a considerable amount of power without a lot of thinking, you can get H/C/I kits for around 2200. That with the gears, CAI, pulleys and the exhaust, would give you a noticeable difference in power and a driveable car thats fun to just drive and not overly modded for all out racing.

I have a 5-speed and it runs about 2,400 RMP at 70 and I still get 20 miles to the gallon an automatic will rev a little higher

Thanks guys. I see that mustnag originals are valuable. at the moment I have no desire to sell my car. I plan on keeping the 5.0 until she really is a classic. I have been purchasing new interior parts to put her back to original as I modded the temperature controls and radio location. Since I am the only owner and plan on it for at least another 10 years....who knows.

1. Radio/temp controls back to stock location.
2. Seats will be redone
3. New carpet.
4. Hatch redone as I have built subs into the spare tire well and modded the doors and custom built kick panels. BACK TO ORIGINAL shortly

thanks for all the help.
