k&n filter dimensions
i was wondering if any of you guys know the dimensions for a universal cone k@n filter that just clamps on the stock maf sensor for my 91 gt, so that its basically a ram intake.

you dont want an open filter in the engine bay, because it will pull in all the heat from the engine, which will result in less horse power, I think you would be better off keeping the stock air box, it is a form of a cold air intake because its pulling air from the fender not the engine bay

+1 on the drop-in k&n filter. It's essentially all we need for cold air. All the other fancy shmancy tubing etc is just for show really, and the hp gain from them when compared to the price is just a joke. The only apparent advantage of a ram intake is that it sucks in more air due to it's larger size, but frankly I don't see the point since that air is hot. Colder air from outside the fender is denser and thus better than whatever mass the ram air can take in since it won't be as dense due to its higher temperature. If I was hellbent on getting an aftermarket intake I'd probably go with a powerpipe, at least it sucks in air from the outside and the tubing is actually wider than stock, unlike all the other stuff.

i'm lookinag at the numbers from dynomyth and it's a pretty good difference in power for a cold air intake.. the question is.. i got that k&n conical one... i'm really thinking about getting the one that goes in the fender.

There is advantages to having an after market cold air intake, some time the tubing is bigger, it has smooth pipe unlike our stock tubing, but some of the aftermarket cold air intakes come with filters that are way to small..
I would buy one my self but in a year ill be supercharging, so the cold air intake with be of no use to me at that point since in will have to removed for the supercharger.....Im kind of done with throwing money away

same here ryan. when i bought the mustang mid last year i was putting shit on left and right without really doing research. and most of them i had to redo all my work. about 3 months ago i had to drop my tranny down again to put a stall converter on it after wrong information the transmission shop had given me.

Oh yeah? I'd like to hear your logic behind that. But in the mean time, stop saying dumb(and incorrect) things like this. Your best bet is to just get a no name fender well kit from ebay for $25-$50 and then replace the filter with a K&N one. All of that fancy smancy tubing will net you a few more hp than a stock replacement drop in.

Or you can build a fender intake with some pipes from here, Intercooler Pipe Fabrication - Silicone Intake Systems Auto Parts
