Cylinder heads uninstalled
Hi guys,
I've pulled the heads off my motor and was going to replace them, noticed there was some engine coolant in pistons 3+4 after removing them... looks like either the head gasket was failing or i f**ed up and leaked a little while removing the heads... (car did overheat a bit in winter so im assuming gas-failure) im doing the work with the engine still in the car... before i started i drained the oil and coolant as thoroughly as possible.... what i wanna know is if there is a little coolant in the oil will this have any adverse effect on the motor running when i put it back together... once its back together ill open up the drain plugs again to make sure i can drain anything that might be left but i wanna know just in case... id take the oil pan off but anyone that knows if you dont have a hoist to lift the motor your screwed for getting it off... be grateful for your input and thoughts... thanks in advance Jamie |

I'm willing to bet the oil got in the cylinder when you removed the head. If you can pull the head off without spilling coolant in there, you're a magician.
I typically don't change the oil until I'm done with the project, but it probably won't make any difference. It just seems like it drains better if you drain them together. No need to pull the pan. Just drain it all out, and fill it up with oil. Any other moister will evaporate as the oil heats up.

+1. Use a new head gasket just in case.

Never ever reuse a head gasket.

Bootsys the fuggin man. Used head gaskets 4 times and still ran 10.2 at 127 on boost alone with pro comps. He defied gravity on multiple occasions and walked on water. <3 jbootsy.

Thanks for your help guys much appreciated,
the pistons look good all sooty and black as they should, got some used Cylinder heads and a new gasket kit (Felpro's on the head-G's) id never ever EVER re-use gaskets thats just beyond stupid... I drained all the oil and coolant before starting the work as the oil has only been in there for 500miles... just got loads of crusty thick s**t on the top of the block that needs cleaning and scraping out... As this is my first break down of any engine i'm taking it one day at a time do a bit of the work everyday making sure i dont miss anything or F-up anything, got nearly every how to guide under the sun but you can never have too many opinions on a subject... will be cleaning the block and threads out over the next few days then will look into fitting... once again thanks for your thoughts and opinions guys
