Rims Rubbing

On my 87 gt, it has 5 lug cobra rims but I noticed they're rubbing on the inside against the lower control arms. Can I put longer studs in the rotors and put a spacer inbetween the rim and rotor? Or is there another fix?

What size rims are they & whats the backspacing. Are the rims or tires rubbing? I have had tires rub the quadshocks before but never the control arms.

18" rims, I tried using a ruler to find the width, looks 10"
don't know the backspacing, rims with new tires were on the car when I got it. Only rubbing lower control arms on the front,

I'm on 17x9's with a 245/45 tire and the same thing happens to me when I cut the wheels all the way. Haven't checked to see if the rims are rubbing but I know it's not the tire because I checked that. I just have to avoid U-turns and hard turns for now. I'll check it out this weekend and post up a solution if I find one.

it's normal and you can clearance the stock a arms slightly to minimize or clear the rubbing issue... but if you have 10" wide from rims then you'll be contacting everything and won't be making any turns lol

I never thought of that... moving to sticky weights instead of the clip on type helped but it still rubs.

Yeah that would help too but any 9" rim will still rub at full lock. Just take a file or grinder to the a arm sparingly and you won't have the problem anymore. Just paint any bare metal showing so you don't develop rust.

I've done this to like six foxes and dont' know why.. I eventually went to tubular k and a arms eventually on all them anyways LOL

Get a grinder and clearance it a little...easiest way to fix the rub, or you'll end up putting different wheels on, brother. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys. Didn't know this was a common problem. I been dealing with it for 4 years lol. Hopefully my rims aren't fucked. I got 00 cobra r's and they're hard to come by.

It probably clearanced itself Cschneider. If you got 17x9's like me, then it will probably rub in a different spot, lol, until you either grind it away or it grinds itself away.
