street/strip

once again i need your guys help. i have 89 gt with 474 whp. was at the strip first time with this new hp and ran 12.53 @ 117 with 2.00 60'. had tire spin but not that much. car should be mid-low 11's with that top speed. i have rear uppers and lowers already. i am looking for a proven street/strip combo suspension from front to back, the car is primarily street. other people have said coilover, is this a good combo and should i put them in front and rear ? or just the front with adjustable arms in rear with air bags ? if anyone has a proven combo and would share that with me i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.

Coil overs are not necessary. What kind of tires are you running? What size and what air pressure. Stock springs will work fine. 90/10 struts and no sway bar will help alot up front but handling will suffer. With that much horsepower you have the power to run low 11s all day. With a more drag race oriented suspension 10s shouldn't be a problem. No matter what it runs that is some impressive power for a daily driven street car.

thanks bro. tires are bfg g-force t/a 255/50/16 and pressure at the track is 20 lbs. car is lowered with fms springs, should i put sock springs back in or does it not matter much? i see you launch pretty good. i am not opposed to replacing any or all parts needed. is it possilbe for you too recommend some things to get me in the right direction. car has full interior and is pretty much stock weight. again it is a street car so i dont want to sacrifice driving it on street that much. i know i cant have the best of both worlds but just want better "hook up" so when i do go to track i can embarass the grand nationals that want to "play".

I'd start with a set of 26x8.5 slicks with 12 psi. The improvement will be huge. You can also take the sway bar links off at the track which will increase front end travel and increase weight transfer. Your 60 foot should be easily in the low 1.5x area.

No air bag. Are the springs weak? I would assume that is why it sags. I'd replace the springs if they are weak.

id get rid of those lowering springs. that car should be at least a 1.6 60' my car is lowered with bbk springs and on 26x10.5-15 et streets i cant hook, it blows the tires off till second. my stock motor car last week went a 1.79 60' spinning so your car must be spinning real hard. id shit can those springs, and throw a ET street or ET drag on it, and you will notice a HUGE diffrence. the reason my car doesnt hook is because of those springs. were going back next week with stock springs i will let you know how it works out. im almost positive it will hook now.

also i would look into a set of strange 10 way adjustable front struts and some 50/50 rear shocks by comp. engineering or lakewood or something of the sort. but like i said springs and tires should hook you right up. what rpm were you launching at?

Lowering springs shouldn't be an issue. I've gone 11.50s with low 1.5x 60 foots with my old daily driver with BBK lowering springs and 26x8.5 slicks.

You can try an air bag but it probably won't do much. I'm just curious why it is dropping the right side that much if it isn't hooking. It seems like there is an issue elsewhere.

I run a 26x9x15 Hoosier. I dont know how much a half an inch will make but they fit fine...
