I just got a 89 LX 5.0 convertible AUTO. Anybody know what the hp and torque specs are? And what can anybody tell me what they run stock in the 1/4 mile? I already know that my first mod is gonna be 4.10 gears. What will my 1/4 go down to then?

Welcome to the site Charlie! The factory figures for your engine is 225 horsepower and 300 ft. lbs. of torque. I'm not exactly sure what the stock 1/4 mile times are but I'm sure its somewhere around 14.9-15.1 for the convertibles. Convertibles are the heaviest Mustangs so they are a bit slower. 4.10 gears will definitely improve your 1/4 mile time. You can probably figure gaining 2-3 tenths which would put you somewhere around 14.6- 14.8.

Welcome dude, your in the right place if you wanna get the most out of your pony. 4.10's are a great choice if you don't mind the extra rpm on the highway.

Welcome. I have raced a few 5.0HO Mustangs at the track that were stock and they run 14.9-15.2 depending on 5-speed/good river vs. 5-speed poor driver. 4.10s on my little 6-banger dropped my E.T. from 15.5-14.9, but I have an auto tranny

From what i've read, the weight is from ford trying to stiffen the chassis cause it didn't have a roof. But they still didn't do a very good job, so my second mod will probably be suframe connectors. Does anybody know exactly what parts makes the convertable significantly heavier?

My last car was a CRX Si, so high revs on the freeway doesn't bother me much.

Chassis stiffening, pumps, linkages, hardware, etc. Not to mention the top and associated bracketry weighs almost as much as a steel roof. Not a big deal though. My buddy has a 3300 pound convertible that runs 10.60s and another guy I know has a convertible that runs 9.80s.
