Strange Smog Crossover pipe to EGR valve setup

Hey guys,

When I bought my 94 gt it had shorty headers on it with the smog port plugged with a bolt but I noticed today of a strange bypass setup that the previous owner did.

He connected the bottom of the EGR Valve directly to the smog crossover valve thing that would normally go to the exhaust manifold.

Is this a problem or is this okay? Looks like he used a big fuel line hose to connect the egr valve to the smog crossover pipe. So basically on the Smog Crossover pipe, one end is correct and bolts to the head and on the other end it goes to the bottom of the EGR valve by a fuel/vacuum hose connection.

The 94-95 had the incoming exhaust coming up from around the #3 cylinder to the EGR. That was how they did it those 2 years.

Okay here is a picture. As you can see, the vacuum hose used is also kinked at the EGR Valve exit and Smog Crossover exit.

That's a noble attempt, but I don't think it's actually capable of doing anything.

The pipe coming from the back of the heads has a check valve on the end of it, ensuring that exhaust can't come out of it, only air can go IN to it. Assuming that your EGR is hooked up and the valve can open, it will just be drawing against the check valve. Essentially, that hose is doing nothing.
