5-10 is defiantly pushing the limit though. 5 is no good. 10 is pushing it. 8 per 1000 RPMs is minimum. 15-20 at idle, like he mentioned, is no worries, and normal for something with a lot of miles.

My friend told mr that it's so low because of the oil line it copper and super thin I picked up a new gauge and a steel braided line so hopefully it reads better

meaning an older 351 block can hold more power than other blocks, I didn't mean that a certain year 351 made more power just because of what the year the block is

Look on the internet and read all the information you can find on the 351w certain years can hold more power and produce more torque. Mine is a 70' model it has the bigger plugs and valves then the newer 351's. Also a lot of people dont know but 351 are bad on oil pressure, its not uncommon to see them get low as 15-20 psi at idle! at cold start they can be up around 50-60psi then drop down. Almost every 351 i've seen has been this way even my 69 mustang had low oil pressure and it was all factory motor.
My best advice is do your homework and you should be fine. I love my lil coupe it is a lot of fun on the street.
Just so everybody knows, this is not true! Oil pressure can be that low, but the 351s are not prone to low oil pressure.

Your misinforming people. No one cares what a ford tech says. 351's havent been in any ford in years dude.

Ford Tech FTMFW.... bwahahahahahaha. Most mechanics just know how to take bolts out, remove part, put new part in, reinstall bolts. Takes a good one to actually diagnosis things... especially on older cars like ours. My buddy has a 13,000 dollar scan tool to diagnosis most things for him, but I've seen him be wrong on a car that he couldn't hook that up to, and have to return parts lololololololololol. He owns his own successful business too, so it's not like he's just a chump either. He always tells me Fords are stupid. Since he owns his own business of repairing all makes and models except diesel's, he MUST be right....... right????

To the OP: You usually can't go wrong when going with the majority rule concept.

351C's have been known to have some oiling issues. Maybe the tech is confused.

I've never heard of this oiling issue either. Unless they're referring to the drainback system. Using a high volume pump can starve a SBF at higher RPM's because it will pump more oil into the top end than the drainback system can return back to the crankcase and you can starve the bottom end. But the easy fix for that is to not use a high volume oil pump.

Like said, 5 psi at idle is a bit lower than i would be comfortable with. I wouldn't expect that engine to last a whole long time. Seen guys run for a couple years on idle PSI that low though, but I would say you've got some main or rod bearings that need some attention. As long as that line isn't clogged, it's probably pretty accurate. I've used nylon line in the past that's pretty thin and it didn't change readings.
