Temp position when cold?
I just picked up a 1994 Mustang GT that has aftermarket white face gauges on it but I think the previous owner put the needle for the water temp gauge back on incorrectly. From a cold start (car has been sitting for about 8hours or so) the temp starts out at the N or the word NORMAL.
I need to take the gauge cluster out and reposition the needle but I'm unsure where it should be from a cold start. Could you guys let me know what yours read from a absolute cold start. I'm thinking probably right on the C (Cold) black line but thought it may even be before that. Thanks |

You are better off getting it to a known running temperature (via an aftermarket temp gauge) and resetting or just remembering where that temp is. Then you'll always know you'll be fine at that point.

Yeah I plan on getting an aftermarket gauge but want my factory gauge to sit where it supposed to as it's bugging me. Where does this needle sit when cold?

FIXED!!!
FYI- if you try to position the need back a bit it will still default back to what it was when the ignition is turned on so moving it will do nothing. My problem was that the needle was not on the cluster all the way so the temp gauge would just skyrocket to the right after about 5 minutes of running. I pressed it it a bit more securely to the cluster and this morning it read C COLD when I started it and on the highway it was reading around the M in Normal instead of H (Hot). |
