replacing head gaskets

What should I use to clean the old gasket? And does anybody have any advice when putting the new gaskets on. What are the torque specs for the heads?
Any help would be highly appreciated I don't want to mess it up.

Aluminum or iron heads? I use a very sharp chisel and some mineral spirits to clean the gaskets off, if they're aluminum, be very careful to not gouge the metal. Lot easier to do on an aluminum head than on an iron head. Also, emphasis on "very sharp" chisel. A dull one will make it easier to dig into the metal on the head. Torque specs

White bristle disk on a die grinder for aluminum and light tan scotchbrite disk for iron. Air/power tools for the mutha faking win!

I use a dremmel and a wire brush attachment to remove the old gasket. Then I rub it down with some gasket remover and spray the block and head side with copper spray.
