for some background info;i have an old style 4 speed with the linkage on the outside of the tranny and the guy that had it before us said "it has cobra gears"
my problem is that second gear whines and the shifter vibrates very small and fast like bee would sound
my question is, could this gear be going or do i need oil in the trans
i am afraid to drive it alot cause i dont want to do any further damage if there is any thanks for any advise, input or suggestions

If it only does it in second gear I doubt it is the gear oil unless it is low. Sounds more like the gear is worn. When gears dont mesh correctly they make a whining noise. Honesty Id check oil level, if it is fine then drive it. It may last forever making that noise or it could break down in 10 miles. Keep a few 20s in your wallet and drive it. If it breaks get a tow and tear it down. T-5s are sold fairly cheap now days and would be better to put in then the stock 4 speed. If you like to try and keep it original, I have a used 4 speed i could part with.

thanks i am gonna check the oil today i am hoping that is all it is cause the guy supposedly re built it with cobra gears and i am guesing he did not put enough oil
