Finally someone might know something
Gday guys, i have bought what seems to be a nice mustang engine. the only trouble is i live in Australia and no body realy can tell me much about it.
Silly me i just thought the local Ford dealer could help but they cant seem to do a lot. After a fair bit of reserch this is what ive come up with: i think its a 5L Hi Output Mustang engine, build between 85 and 90. Engine marking JF 219077, it is fuel injected with yellow injectors and has a MAP sensor on the fire wall. after looking on here i have set the timing to 12deg which i think is a good amount as it only pinked (pinged) once just before it stalled on a sand dune, it had a problem with the throttle butterfly wearing on the casting which i fixed by gluing it to the bearing, i will try the idle reset method to fix my idle problem next. does the engine in these pictures look like the engine i describe? oops, i cant post pics yet, will post as soon as i can. my pictures are under the size limit and kb limit but no fun, i did the idle motor reset steps and idles great now but with the tps set at .98v it will only go to 1.96 at full open throttle. does this mean its stuffed? (i had to glue a couple of bits of match stick onto the lugs and elongate the holes to get enough adjustment out of it)

Should be around 5v at full throttle.

If it's fuel injected and from a Mustang, it's at least an '86, but the 5.0 was used in Mustangs, Thunderbirds, Crown Vics, Explorers, F-series trucks, Broncos, E-series vans, and Lincolns (I think I got everything).
Pictures would be *really* helpful.

Ok, finally got a new TPS from America. It was difficult as no mustang people in australia deal much with this model and the company in america wouldnt take my credit card or post it to australia. Anyway it will actually rev out now and has a lot more power, so thanks to you guys that helped me out.
Another question is though about the thermostate, it had a verry big outside diameter but the one i got in Australia had a verry small inside hole for water to travel through, as i am having over heating problems i was wondering if you guys new what size hole should be in the middle, A 180deg thermostate looks like the correct choice as this says "In graphing the parameters of over 1,000 data samples during closed loop operation, I have not seen the EEC go into closed loop at a temperature less than 170°F. When temperature gets to 190°F, the A9L EEC pulls 2° of timing, so a 180°F thermostat is probably the best performance choice." came from here: http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/te...erWorkings.pdf Mick |

Any pics of the thermostat?
I mean, this is pretty typical: ![]() Though I can't imagine that thermostats wouldn't interchange with other pushrod Fords that should be available down there. Didn't the Falcon have a Windsor 302 or 351?

yeah, thats what i got the thermostate from, but the hole in the centre just seems so small compared to the hole it goes into. It becomes a pretty big restriction, i will take it out and try it, as it didnt have one when i got it.

i have pictures that i can not send jpeg 800x 600 222kb it says security missing?? but i got a hi flow 180deg thermostate instead of the 170deg one i put in already. will see how it goes. even making it small enough so you couldnt hardly see it at 19.5kb it still diddnt work.
but basicaly the valve is bigger round to let more water flow. |
