how to remove harmonic balancer

How can I remove my balancer? I'm gonna rent the puller tool from autozone but how do I remove the middle bolt? Every time I try to take it off the engine turns

I was going to mention that, but I didn't know if you could get one in there. There's no way in hell you can hit mine with an impact, with the engine in the car.

This is true. I'm too used to pulling the engine, lol. You would have to pull the radiator to do an impact. If it's stick, in gear with a breaker bar will be a lot quicker.

put it in gear, pull the e brake, use a breaker bar, ... or pull the rad. and impact it.

REMEMBER to pull the washer out, once... my washer was stuck in with sealant? and i forgot it was there...you cant pull a balancer when your pushing on the washer instead of the crank!!!!! duhhh

When I put it in reverse it holds still but its so tight that I'm scared of breaking something while taking it off. Will everything hold fine or can something break.

No way. Only thing that would break is the bolt, and that's a big bitch. Doubtful it'll break.

I didn't need a puller to pull mine nor did i need anything special to install it. It just went right on.... maybe i did tap it a few times or something but I remember being baffled by the fact that I didn't need to use a puller to get it off. Car runs fine with no vibes. Weird.

Dewd, the new one went on just as easy. I replaced it because the rubber isolator failed and the balancer ring was wobbling.

Stock replacement from autozone - I needed one right then and there.

I still have the center of the old balancer. It makes for a great seal installation tool.
