Please help temp issue

Hi people thanks in advance, I have a 88 mustang 5.0 302 all add ons listed here BBK cold air intake BBK equal length shorties BBK off road h pipe spin tech mufflers MSD cap rotor and wires and last a pro form 180-240 adjustable 2800 cfm electric fan. I had the stock 195 thermostat in it it was running at 200-225 I put in a 180 stat thinking it would open sooner and help cool down faster. Still was running hot I took stat out and still have issue. It has a new water pump and tried to new stats and burped the system also where not put in back words. Today was pretty warm around 86 deg. I seen temp today of 230 I need to get thus temp down any suggestions would be very helpful I would like to see 190-200 at all times. And second what is a too hot temp for a 302 with my mods and second running at 14* timing. Thanks for all help. No leaks of oil or coolant no blown head gaskets did a pressure test and blue chemical test kit and cap is working it is new also. I am running a after market oil pressure and water temp that is accurate temp reading.

How is the radiator? Are the fans actually turning on?

Yea the fan kicks on at 180 I have adjusted to make sure and it kicked on at 200 also but put back to 180 when gauge says 180 fan is turning on I have even turned on defroster to kick fan on before 180 and it didn't seem to help I wired it into the ac and as for the radiator it looks clean and I took off bottom hose put hose in radiator fill neck and it flowed threw the radiator really fast so didn't seemed clogged. Another question would 14* timing run a extra 20-30* degrees I know it runs hotter BUT that much?

Sometimes you need to be patient... we have people with really good knowledge, but they are not on 100% of the time... Just like me school is out so im more, but recently my tranny has been in and out 3 times the last two weeks...

There isnt much it really can be. the radiator, the water pump, or a fan thaat is going the wrong way. you need to draw air through the radiator and then blow on the motor for an electric fan to work properly. Also if its getting warm, is that only on the highway, in town, only when idling?

The fan is a pull not a push. I got it out of summit in the mustang fox body section it worked fine before now it is acting up. Is there a way that I don't know to test to a radiator ? Like I said I put water hose in top removed bottom hose and flushed if u want to call it and it seems to flow the water as fast as it was coming out the hose. And sorry I was seeing other post and they had 10-2@ post in Less then 30 mins and mine only had one that's all. but thanks for help btw.

To answer that question about when it gets hot all the time no mater city freeway or stop it just runs hot. Today I drained the coolant system and flushed block and then radiator. I then put timing back to 10 degrees all tho it is not abouve 80 degrees when I drove it and I drove it like I stole to to see what happens it reached max of about 205 then shot down to 197-200 and stayed there no matter how I drove it I drove about 20 miles and I drove it hard freeway and city. So next question is could it be the radiator I started it watched the water level go down and watched the water flow pretty good throw radiator. But I want to run it at 14* timing it runs soo good set at 14. It's a big diff from 10 to 14. I can only assume it is the radiator but would like some more input first.

High temps. seem to be common now days. There is another thread or two already on the 5.0 section. I've done everything under the sun to my 306 and I still feel it should run cooler. If I knew what to tell you I would. Good luck.

Thanks I just don't want to invest in a big radiator for it not to work maybe stay stock I know big radiators some times make over heating problems. My dad ran a big four core 1inch tubes on his 454 in a 87 1ton for pulling a trailer sand rail Two dirt bikes and two quads and it actually made it run hotter. He went back to stock and it ran perfect at 210 none stop. I know big radiators are for fast cool down track days but sometimes beside my dads I have herd others long driving they don't cool down fast enough so I don't know if I should stay stock or order a 2 row one inch tubes it's 89$ verses 200$. All I want is to run 190-200 ALL TIMES 210 MAX no matter ac on running hard climbing hills there a few big hills where I live that temp has seen 225 running up them I'm leaning to a bad radiator can really be any thing else?

If you are not racing, I would run stock... it doesn't get much hotter than Phoenix and l put it through anything all day long and it performs. I'll connect my predator and run live logging and will report my numbers.

Awesome and thanks I am going to kragens when it cools down to get a new radiator that's the last option I know if that doesn't work I will be super stumped. I'm doubtful it is based on seeing it flow good when flushing it and after it ran it was low and the water was flowing nice on top so I don't know if middle or bottom is clogged but will let results be known.

The clutch fans locked up and spins at all times and it was having a little issue of getting hot. That's why I went with the electric fan conversion to see if it would cool down better then the clutch fan and wanted to get rid of the clutch fan to go electric in the long run.

Any new news?

I also data logged on the way home...

113 degrees outside :

While driving at 2k rpm, IAT read 118 and coolant held at 202. Cruising at 3400 rpm IAT 118, coolant 208.

In traffic at long light, IAT 130 and coolant went as high as 220.
