new to modding

I own a 94 Mustang GT 5.0 auto. It is stock other than exhaust. I have recently been wanting to get a little more out of it. I want to know if I put a bigger throttle body on it will I get anything out of it or just a waist of time? (I already have the bigger throttle body)

.
i agree with this... add some safety before you try to add more power...

Changing the T/B wont do much for you without other mods...

myslow5.0....you can take the mass air meter off and cut the center bar out to open up the air passage.
You take a open end hack saw and cut the bar out. Don't mess with the air hole where the sensor pokes in. If you enlarge that hole it may not be good.
I did this mod on my 96GT and my friends 94GT.
And of course if you don't already have a K&N get one. And pull the air silencer out/off the air box. That is if yours is the same as my 96. My 96 air box was a round piece of plastic with a rubber boot sticking into the passenger fender. That rubber boot is a air silencer and restricts air flow.

Do I know you? lol

I have already had it frame tied and the brakes done. Im prolly gonna go with 3.55 gears to keep it more interstate friendly.

I also already have E303 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, 24 lbs injectors, BBK cold air intake with calabrated MAF for the injectors and a 5.0 big shot plate kit. (along with the 70 mm throttle body) Just waiting to get a diff intake before doing all this. I just wanted to know if the throttle body alone would do anything at all? I am old school carb guy and know nothing about computer stuff. Just wanting to have a little fun with my stang.

Thanks for the help guys

If you have the stock upper/lower intakes you will be good on low end to midrange torque so the E303 cam will work well with that especially...

if you change the upper lowers im assuming you will get one to match the TB so that should open up some better breathing... you will get a better response with the air flow...

Trust me there are no difficulties between switching from using a carb to an electronic engine... you know most of the engine parts and im assuming how to build a motor so your already 70% there... just have a bit of confidence in yourself you will find its much easier than you think

What kind of MAF do you have? (70mm??)
Do you have aftermarket cylinder heads?
What kind of exhaust do you have?
Ignition system? (distributor, coil, leads)
do you have a forced air induction kit?
Underdrive pulleys?
Remove the A/C? (if you can live without it)

Jamie

ok have you thought about maybe looking for some 2nd hand cylinder heads, Roller rockers and an upgrade on the cam (or you can keep the stock cam its got a good lope)... maybe pop on some underdrive pulleys and a ram air kit? those would be the basic upgrades if you wanted to get a little more omph out of the old girl without too much messing around

just make sure you get an intake with the same size opening at the TB or you can port the intake.

What i mean is the stock intake has some thing like a 60mm opening and if you put on a 70mm Tb, it will do you no good. Not to mention that the stock mass air flow sensor is small,

So if your not willing to upgrade to the same size Mass air flow sensor(or bigger), EGR spacer and port the intake opening so that its a straight through flow....Id say its a pointless modd to do at this point

(When upgrading your mass air sensor go as big as you can)

But even after you did all the things i listed the gain will be small even with a intake change... the biggest problem with our engines is the cylinder heads, so if you up grade the heads with the stuff i mention and the stuff you already have, the car should really move like a bat out of hell...lol

thanks guys.
1988 convertible I have thought about looking for some used heads if I can pick them up for a decent price. I have 1.6 roller rockers and E303 cam to go in her once I get everything else

Ryanw yea the intake Im looking at is 70 mm also and seems to be right around were I want in the power range also.

Philly Im just gonna go with 3.55 keep it more interstate friendly. I want to still be able to jump in it and take off to FL or where ever with out killing me on gas or the constant high rpms cruising at 70 down the interstate.
