Engine swap choice!?!?
Okay guys I need expert advice before I start my build from the ground up. When I get back from Afghanistan I'm going to rip my Fox down to its bones and do a full build. So I need to know what engine will perform better a older EFI fully aftermarket built engine (347, 351, etc.) or a new Coyote 5.0 with as many parts currently available for it? Keep in mind I'll need a new tranny for both. the new Coyote 5.0 crate is cheaper and puts out more HP than a 347 or 351 crate. But im not sure if old school blocks perform better. Im also wanting decent MPG also. My car is gonna be a Street/Strip car. Give me all your possible suggestions and opinions please.

If I had the money and knowledge to do it, I would go with the coyote. More dependibility, and factory over 400hp. And it would be different, everybody and the moma got a stroked fox, not many have a coyote fox.

ME, I keep it push rod cause thats what I know.. I know how to work on them, the new MOD motors are foreign to me. I do have a Mach 4v but For me to have a track car I would rather be simple. I am sure once I torn my 4v down a few times I would know the ins and outs but haven't done it yet. But If it were me, and I was doing a full rebuild, I'd go for a 408 stroker, and if you wanna keep efi do so, if not then carb it. Since you are wanting to do a street strip car I would keep efi with a 90mm elbow and TB on a efi vic jr intake.. I would have a custom cam ground for the motor, forged internals with TFS 225's.. 1 7/8 inch to 3.5 inch collector headers for a full 3.5 inch exhaust, and some heavy duty injectors... maybe 60 pounders... Back it up with a built C4 and have a blast.. and of course have the rear end built and sfc's and all that jazz..

What does your budget look like? can you afford all the parts for a coyote swap?

New coyote 5.0 with a supercharger and a manual trans behind it. Keep the engine stock besides the blower and by the time anything breaks you could have learned enough about that motor to rebuild it. A brand spankin new engine isn't gona break anytime soon

when you looked at the coyote crate, did you factor in the conversion kits and all that ? also are you able to run the stock computer with the new engine or would you have to get a new computer too? what about an aftermarket block 302 based engine with a turbo? or hell, your stock engine with a turbo?

If you can afford it, then go for the coyote. If not then do a stroked 351. It's been done to death so they'll be no surprises and for a street car it's hard to beat cubic inches.

Stroked 351 gets my vote. Dropping in a coyote is going to cost more than you think. What are your HP goals?

ya how can the coyote be cheaper and put out more, for the 8k on the engine alone you should be able to make a nice 351 based engine with much more power right? plus the cost of the the new harness would be another 1k saved

Stroked 351w would be best for the budget/power choice IMO. I'd like to do one of them Coyote/Fox swaps some day, but I'll be patient & wait. Later on down the road with all the aftermarket competeing with each other those Coyote/Fox swap parts are gonna get even cheaper & more refined.

I'd go with with a stroker 351 because a coyote swap is so expensive, and you could make a mean windsor with the price of swapping in a coyote 5.0.
Prices from LRS: 1)Cotoye 5.0- $6,100 2)Computer pack- $1,440 3)ceramic headers for swap- $780 4)swap oil pan- $345 5)O/R x-pipe- $270 Just with some of the main parts for the swap, your looking at 9K, which would make a sick windsor stroker.

Im in Afghanistan and I finally could get on! I've decided on a 363 BOSS Block from Ford Racing with a 500 HP rating carbed, but I'm sticking EFI. I cant decide if I should Procharge with Water/Meth injection or N/A with Nitrous. My HP goal is about 600 to 700. Buying a brand new Ford Explorer loaded when I get back too as a family vehicle and a present for tha wife. I can tow my Stang with it if need be also. Get rid of her P.O.S. foreign mitsubishi galant. FORD FTW!
