Do you all think this is a good deal?
Its Gt40 heads and intake for $350 on CL?
I can't post the link becuase I am too new of a member here. The description from CL is: "gt 40 heads, port an polish, shaved, cut an cleand, bolt on an go, Gt 40 intake, upper an lower, fuel rail, fuel regulator 32 lb injectors, if you are looking to go fast this is the set up, i ran 13.7 with this set up, no cam an street tires" If so, what kinds of questions should I ask when calling about it? Would getting this make my 5.0 HO a complete Cobra engine? Also are the Gt40 heads aluminum? What kinds of gains should I expect? I have a stock 5.0 HO currently. Thanks in advance for your help. |

GT40's are iron heads, you might see a 35-45 rwhp gain from this swap... maybe.. check and see if the springs are upgraded, and how clean they are and all.. if they have been P&P "Doubt it" and all new springs and they valves look good yada yada then it isn't to bad of a deal.. 32 pounders are a bit much but oh well they come with it right.. what about the Mass for the 32's.. hell I didn't even know they made 32's.... I have 30's..
Also you should be cutting dam close to 13.even stock... all you need is some good tires, and suspension ie: upper and lowers and 90/10's up front and 50/50's in rear.. But if they are clean clean and he has paper work to prove the work... then go for it.. unless you can handle waiting to get a good h/c/i swap... Then I would say TFS 170, tfs stage 2 cam and race intake mani.. that's my 95's combo and it runs well.. Andersen's camshafts are damm good otb cams too..

32lb are to big for a gt40 set up....i would go with 24lb
You can use the 32 but you may need a tune or youll run rich. When he said there shaved, does he mean they have been milled ? Thats going to up your compression.

Hopefully they are shaved cause don't the gt40's have a low compression ratio?? He might be able to pick up a little more power if that get bumped up.. We deff need to see the add or have more info on the work done to the heads.. But if it were me, and I went though the same thing about 2 years ago, I would wait and save for a good h/c/i swap and do it one time and not twice... I was also going to buy some gt40 heads and pair it with my cobra intake mani and opted not to and wait and Lucky me the TFS's went on sale for 990$$ at summit new so I got them instead.. with a TFS race mani.. it would be worth the wait... pick up a good intake mani used, the TFS's track heat or higher, the edelbrock ones are good too.. then find a deal on a good use set of 170's or wait till they go on sale like i did..

I think I will pass on the heads. Thanks for your input. I would like to get aluminum heads if I got other than stock anyway. Do you think the intake alone is worth getting? I doubt I would have much if any gains with the Gt40 intake alone.

Not worth it imo... I had a Cobra Intake main "Same as the gt40" and had it on my TFS head and cam swap, it made 284ish and trapped 104. Then I swapped it out for a tfs race and trapped 109 so that is a hp increase there and pretty significant too.. I would think I got at least 15 rwhp out of that swap... and should have put me right at 300 rwhp... I would wait and get the good stuff and do it once.

I ended up spending my money on 3.73 gears and an aluminum driveshaft instead
