is it true that stock 89-92 GTs come with forged pistons

The GT and LX motors are the same. They both had them.

forged pistons


I thought all the 5.0' s had forged pistons. So mine being a 87 would have cast pistons?

Somebody needs to rewrite that article on the history of the fox body then. It is wrong cuz it says 89-92 had forged pistons.

No it does not have to be rewritten because it says people prefer it for performance because of the pistons, mass air. ect.. Pre 89 no mass air but they had forged slugs back to 1987... Thats what I thought.. But the article is right regarding what Stangs are better because of those couple of things..

I believe you but the statement is misleading: Generally, Mustang Fans favor the 1989-1992 Ford Mustangs for performance use because the 5.0L V8 came with forged pistons, MAF (mass air flow meters), EFI (electronic fuel injection), and a stronger main block. The last of the Fox body Mustangs is in 1993. It Does not mention anywhere that the 87 and 88 had forged pistons. We know they did, but if we didn't and had to go by that article we would think they started in 89.
