Help fuel pump not initialising
hi guys,
I've just rebuilt my engine gone to start her up and nothing ![]() im getting power to the engine she turns over, the relay near the ecu turns on so im getting power but the fuel pump doesnt switch on when you turn the ignition into the primed position... ive done a MAF conversion checked all the wiring, given the reset button in the boot a few presses but still nothing... the system was depressurised when i took it apart. have had a look at the fuel pump relay and switched it over with another one but still no joy... is there anything im missing??? i know the fuel pump worked 6 months ago before i took the engine apart as it started up and run without a hitch... am at a loss as what to do?!? anyone got any ideas? |

IDK if Fox's have an inertia switch But it is located in the Trunk on the drivers side behind the paneling in my 95. I had to reset it once. Give it a shot..
Check this out.. the 2nd link in GOOGLE says 1989 inertia switch...

Tried the inertia switch and it wasnt that (have had that issue in the past)
i just took the black cap off the fuel pump relay... connected it tried to start it and it wasnt clicking... pushed the copper connection against the small coil (that should be magnetised to attract a small copper plate to make the connection) pushed it up with a screw driver and bam! fuel pump started whining like my wife! problem solved, new fuel pump relay ordered from latemodelresto

Hi Guys,
Ive done some checks but it doesnt look like the ECU... also put in the old ECU to check if it would kick in but still nothing... im guessing its got to be a wiring issue but i have no idea where to check, im not realy much of an electrics person i can do basic wiring but its starting to confuse the crap out of me... Gone through the wiring: FP Relay: Yelw/Grn 0.21v Red/Blk 0.22v Orng/Blk 11.68v Pnk/Blk 0.00v ECU Relay: Orng/Blk (red) 0.22v Blk/Orng 0.22v Red/Blk 11.47v Blk/Grn 0.03v ECU: Pin 22 0.21v Pin 33/57 (+) 0.21v Pin 40/60 (-) 0.02v VSS: Pin 3 0.01v Pin 6 0.00v |

Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere. Does this help?

Just noticed something. You listed pins 33/57. Typo? It should be pins 37/57 for vehicle power. According to that link, pin 33 is for the EVR (EGR Vaccum Regulator).

i have done the Maf conversion and followed the instruction the sheet to the letter... i have gone over them multiple times... the Fuel pump relay just wont engage... i have bridged the connections from the permanent 12v supply to the pink wires and the FP fires up... i even managed to start the car for a few seconds and it fired well and sounded good... i've checked all the earth wires cleaned all surfaces and connections and tried to make sure everything is back to the way it was...
the wiring tests i have performed: im getting a permanent 12v feed from the Orange/Black wire (FP relay) but not from any other wires on the FP rlay. this is the diagram ive been following... its something simple that im overlooking i know it... http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/te...ng_Diagram.gif FP Relay: (Pin 22) Yelw/Grn 0.21v (Pin 37) Red/Blk 0.22v (Pin 01) Orng/Blk 11.68v (Pin 19) Pnk/Blk 0.00v (missing 12v feed from RED/blk? This should then power up the coil engaging the clip to feed 12v to YW/GN and PK/BK wires?? is this right??) ECU Relay: Orng/Blk (red into it also) 0.22v (Should Register 12v) Blk/Orng 0.22v (Should register 12v) Red/Blk 11.47v Blk/Grn 0.03v ECU: Pin 22 0.21v (Should register 12v?) Pin 37/57 (+) 0.21v (Should register 12v?) Pin 40/60 (-) 0.02v the only things i can think off affecting it might be the +(pn37) and -(pn40) on the MAF sensor since i added them when i was doing my MAF conversion... ill try unplugging that this afternoon when i get in from work and check the power readings and see what that says... Could it be the actual ECU itself??? I'll also unplug the MAF conversion wiring and test the car out on the old SD ECU and see what happens with that as it originally worked on the old SD computer without problems... is this anything you would try? have i missed anything out... The only other electronic item i have changed is the distributor this is a brand new MSD RTR unit. Heres a shortcut to pictures of my build: Mstang Recontruction... MORE POWER!!! | Facebook |
