Could be a bad fuel sender, anti slosh module, the gauge itself, or wiring. When did the gauge stop working? Did you install the white face gauges or someone else? Has the fuel tank been dropped recently?

the first thing id do is ditch the white face gauges and go from there, not saying thats ur problem, my gas gauge is also goofy but i can gennerally get an idea where its at. does yours move at all? if it doesnt move at all id be more then willing to bet the needle is stuck on those white face gauges

I had this issue, my problem was the anti slosh circuit board that is plugged into the back of the gauge cluster above the fuel gauge only 1990-1993 had this circuit board

it doesnt matter if he took really good care of it....Things just brake( wear out) and that gauge cluster only has a white face sticker on it. electrical stuff break down all the time. you have to understand that if your going to buy a car thats 18 years old its going to have problems regarless of how well it was taken care of. This is not going to be the last time your going to have to put money into this car so you better get use to it. My advice is to not have a mustang as your primary car, It should be a weekend car/project, unless you have the money to drop into it all the time.

A few years back i ran out of money when it came to making repairs on my mustang and i finally had to park her away and get a trust worthy newer toyota truck. and when i finally had enough money years later, i pulled her out of the gerage, and got her going again. Now its just a fun car a drive a few time a month

If possible, ask the previous owner if the gauge was bad before or after the gauges were swapped.

Regardless, pull the dash cluster off and make sure everything is connected, no wires are pinched, and there are no breaks, tears, or burnouts in the printed circuit, and make sure the anti slosh module is where it should be. It snaps into the back of the cluster. According to Ford they cannot be tested. And be careful with the printed circuit, its fragile, and cannot be repaired if broken. If everything appears good, you will need a digital voltmeter to check things out.

why does every one think that his gauges have been replaced ? All he has is a WHITE FACE STICKER that you can buy off ebay. You can slap that stick on any old fox body gauges
