Auto To Manual Swap?
After I redo my suspension in my 90 GT I was going to do a auto to manual tranny swap. I'll be getting a Ford Racing 363 engine that should be putting out 500+HP. What is the Best Transmission that I could put in? Money is not a worry. I don't go cheap.

I'd get a properly built automatic with a transbrake if money isn't an option.

500+ hp in a fox sounds like a dragstrip queen to me. As much of a fan as I am of rowing my own, I have to agree that an auto is gonna be the way to go for going in a straight line.
If you insist on a stickshift, I'd assume you're gonna be making less than 500 ft-lbs, so you could go with a TKO-500 or Viper-spec T56.

I was thinking of staying auto...But is there anyway to get a auto made that has the ability to still shift at fuel efficient points? I want my car to be a street/strip BEAST! And a Auto would be cheaper. And yeah people rag on me for having a Auto. 4 gears though? is there a auto that has 5 gears that would fit on mine and beable to handle that many horses? Cuz I was gonna procharge with water/meth or put nitrous in it. which would put me around 700 and 900 with race fuel and full boost.

Answering one of your questions, get a B&M Shift kit, or any shift kit, I know you can shift it as you want, but i've heard around that you need to change a Valve or some sort with a Manual Transmission valve, so it doesn't mess it up in the long run.
And I think even the 11-12 Mustangs still use 4speed auto's don't quote me on that but it's a guess.. |

Curious, what suspension are you gonna use to hook up this 900hp beast?

I don't think an automatic should be an option for a Mustang. Just doesn't feel right. When I got my car the semi backed into it so the dealer gave me a loaner until it was fixed. The loaner was an auto. Didn't feel good. Didn't know what to do with my right hand.

![]() I also think it's a sin to put a Cobra or Boss on a dragstrip, the Terminator should've been a Mach 1, and that Shelby shouldn't have had a damn thing to do with any Mustang past 1970. But I also know that what I like doing with my car isn't the vast majority of what Mustang owners like doing, and there's nothing wrong with them setting up their car to do what they want it to.

I've been talking to Maximum Motorsports about a suspension setup which will be the first thing I do after the tranny swap, which will include full length sub-frame connectors, 6 point roll-cage, coil kit, and pretty much brand new and upgraded everything. Then I can worry about a new five-lug cobra conversion, brakes, and new LSD, and Gears. Then Ill work on the Engine swap. Still cant decide between a Coyote or a 363 or 427.... |

If ur looking to have an auto car with the "stick" feeling best suggestion is find a good aod trany with all beefed inturnals.for example the tranny from , transmissioncenter.org its a 4r70 level 4 capable of 750 w/ wide gear settings we put this same tranny in a fox on 300shot no problems only alot of tires left to rest in pavment heaven
