should i get a oil pump!
i have a complete 91 5.0 that was pulled 11 years ago and sat on a pallet. the motor had 46k on it when pulled. when i say complete i mean complete! still bolted to the aod , still had the factory numbered plug wires on it.i put it on the stand and pulled the u/l and heads off. after a day of deep creep in the cylnders the motor spins easy. still has great cross hatch in all the bores.
my fox has about 180k on it (i doubt its 80k!)and still runs pretty strong. i have ported p's fresh with crane behives, and exploder upper/lower. i also have a zex wet kit i'm going to run. i want to put the other motor together with this stuff rather than put it on the motor in the fox now. i'm ordering gaskets now and i want to know if i should get a new oil pump for it and maybe even a new timing chain. i really want to put this together as cheep as i can. i'm going to pull the pan and check things out but i think i could really just re gasket this thing and slap it together. just wanted to know what u guys think.should i get a new pump for it ? and if so i was thinking high voulum stock pressure. |

Yes get a new pump. Don't cheap out on critical parts like that that could fail and ruin the entire engine. Just get a melling standard volume pump, do not get a high volume pump. I would do the timing chain too while you're in there. It's better to be sure your chain has no stretch than to chase problems down the road. I would definitely pull a couple main caps and rod bearings and have a look at them when you pull the pan. If you pull the #3 cap, remember to set the thrust before torquing it down all the way.

cool i was a little on the fence on a timing chain because i might do a cam swap down the road, but its good insurance.
