Upgrade help please!

This is my first fox body mustang. I recently bought an 89 mustang GT hatchback.

The motor has been rebuilt to stock specs but does have a cold air intake, headers, h pipe, and duel flowmasters. Stock auto tranny. The reared I got a great price on a completely redone 8.8 with 3.73 posi.

While collecting other pieces, when cheap, I've amassed a decent pile of stuff but need experience to finish my needs.

I have bought a trickflow 'R' upper and lower intake with spacers, underdrive pullies, aeromotive fuel regulator and fuel rails. And a lead on 24 lbs injectors tuned to an 88mm map?

I'm tearing down the fuel tank tomorrow to Sandblast and undercoat. Should I buy a high flow pump? Do I need a high flow return??

I'm looking for the right combo to tie this all together please. Or at least what to be looking for in the bargain shoppers area?

I'm hoping to build a city car that can put 300 horses at the wheels or better. For daily driving.

Thanks everyone!
Tj

I'd go with at least a 190 fuel pump if you're going with 24 lb injectors.

yes

consider this.

you should also have a good shift kit and stall converter with that combo.

That's kinda what I thought.

Do I need a high flow return if I get a high flow fuel pump and bigger injectors?

24# injectors are free!!!! at the j/y. look for 4.6 L lincoln contanentles. front wheel dr makes it a 10 minut 4 bolt ordeal to get the injectors and put them in your pocket. $10-$15 bucks for new 0-rings and pintle caps and your good

No, you don't have to mess with your fuel system at all except for a bigger fuel pump. I would also recommond an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. This is what I always use.

If you still have stock heads, don't bother with the injectors. You're not going to see anywhere close to 300 hp at the tires with E7 heads unless you have about 2k in portwork on them and a ton of other stuff.

Look into a Lentech valve body for the aod, it will get back some of those 60 horses or so the stock tranny robs from the engine, and make it shift a crapload better.

Is the lentech something that can be done easily by a shade tree mechanic or something that requires a complete rebuild?

lol, I just went from a 94 mustang v6 to my 89 Hatch V8. The thought of 60 horses being lost at the tranny is just funny. My V6 only made 130 to begin with!

if your going to upgrade your fuel pump, then just go with a 255lph. It will leave you room to grow

What kind of heads should I be looking for?

Better yet are my ideas of a 300 horses at the wheel even realistic. I don't want to run power adders or run anything higher than 87 regular.

Is that even reasonable?

So I can get a larger than needed fuel pump and it won't cause any harm?

300 at the wheels is very reasonable. A good set of heads to go with that trick flow R intake should put you really close if not over your mark. A decent cam should help you get the most out of your heads, but I would choose them first.
