steering wheel play

i have some play in my steering , not much but enough to get on my nerves, i have ruled out the steering rack and the tie rods because they are both pretty much new, so i am going to go with a 03/04 steering shaft. I was just wondering how difficult this is to swap out, and is it a direct bolt in? Will i have to disconnect it from inside the car or does it unbolt before i get to the inside?

thanks guys

Why don't you get one of the MM steering shafts? I'm sure it would be numerous times better at getting rid of the play than anything stock.

Well because I hears that the cobra one uses needle bearings instead of the rubber one that ours uses, and I'm sure the mm shaft costs a pretty penny that I would rather spend on something else

+1 on this. Easy to check and only costs about $13 for a kit to replace it. Just did mine a month ago. I still have loose steering in comparison to my 01 but I'm chalking it up to the power steering being slightly different.

Easy way to check is to get your wheel to lock after turning off the key and seeing if you can move the steering wheel more than an inch or so either way.

This is the one I got and put on my 89 GT. I gave it a 2 star rating on the site simply because I was pist with how difficult of a time I had getting off the old rag joint rig. But It really is a good part. but I still have play in my steering wheel. The play is between the firewall and the steering wheel some how.

anyway heres the link :

yeah im not sold on exactly what im going to do yet, but i do know that highway driving on a windy day pisses me off, cuz the car drifts so much and trying to keep the wheel straight i feel like im turning the steering wheel back and forth more than i should. But the bad thing about that shaft is i have a 1995 gt. Idk if they were the same for that year or not. That does cost a pretty penny though and i def wasnt looking to spend that much to fix this problem
