need some opinions please
I just bought my 91 which has power windows and door locks and the passenger side window wont roll up. My first thought was obviously that the window motor was out. But when I click the window switch on either side door, there's absolutely no noise or anything from the PS window motor. Also, when I click the door lock switch only the drivers side door locks and unlocks. I'm thinking and HOPING now that maybe there's a short because I really find it hard to believe the motor is out when that same side door lock wont work. Or maybe the door lock regulatoe and window motor are out lol..
I just wanted to get some opinions on this before I tear into it tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe the wires are cut or something. I've already dropped $400 into this car and I've had it a week. I gotta buy a fan shroud also. Oh well. |

Grab the door boot wires and wiggle them around while trying to roll up the window. Sometimes after years of opening and closing the doors, the wires break inside the door boot.
If you don't get anything from that then get a testlight or a multi-meter and troubleshoot the switch first. These are a 5 wire reversal system so both motor wires will be ground at rest. When you press it, the switch will interrupt that ground on whatever side you press and send 12v through the line. Check to make sure you have 12v and ground at the switch inputs with the key on, and that both motor wires rest at ground. Then check the motor wires while you press the switch and see if they change to 12v.

Thanks for the diagram. I'm really thinking its a short or loose wire. I didn't get a chance to tear into it today, had to get the car smog tested and registered. I'll probably get to it tomorrow. The sooner the better! Its starting to storm a lot lol

If it was a short, your battery would most likely be dead or you would have burned up wires somewhere. When power windows stop working, about 50% of the time, it's wires broken open in the door boot. Sometimes the wire breaks inside the insulation and you can't see it without doing a continuity check. Then it's about half and half between the switch itself or the motor.
